Athlete of the Week: SCHS

Foster Whisman, SCHS

Congratulations to Foster Whisman for being recognized as Independence Bank’s Athlete of the Week!

Foster is a current junior at Shelby County High School and plays on the boys' baseball team. Foster was nominated as Athlete of the Week for his strong work ethic and dedication to the team.

He’s demonstrated impressive numbers throughout his baseball career, a testament to his ability as a catcher. He is ready to start the season off strong.

“Foster is an absolute workhorse who puts in the work every day,” said Jonathan Carroll, assistant baseball coach. “He comes to practice with the intention of getting better. When he is locked in, it will be tough to find a better all-around baseball player with the work ethic he carries in this state.”

Foster has played baseball his entire life, preparing him for the challenges of being a state runner-up and elite catcher.

He must stay focused and be a positive role model for the team in stressful situations. As a leader, Foster ensures the team works together well and that each position fulfills their role on the field. He creates a fun, encouraging practice environment and always cheers his teammates on. The younger players look up to him, and his teammates have trust in him to block every pitch to call a complete game.

Outside of practice, Foster shows his commitment to baseball as he wakes up early before school to complete workouts. He also goes to the field to practice individually and trains with a club team when Shelby County is off traditional practice.

Foster would like to attribute his success to his father, grandad and brother. Their support and encouragement have helped him develop as a student-athlete. “I have seen Foster grow more this season at being a captain," Carroll said. “I have complete confidence in him on the mound. He did not lose a single game last season and will be asked to secure some of our biggest wins this season.”
