Fatality on La Grange Road

One woman died after a fatality on La Grange Road Feb. 28 around 9 a.m.

Madison Becknell, 21 of Crestwood in Oldham County, succumbed to injuries from a crash between her passenger car and a semi tractor-trailer at the 7800 block of La Grange. Shelby County Coroner Jeff Ivers identified the deceased, and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the report.

Becknell was a senior at the University of Kentucky. The two vehicle drivers were the only occupants.

Influencer

Becknell was studying B.S. Clinical Leadership at UK and made headlines on the UK College of Health Sciences website for being an Instagram influencer.

Becknell is quoted on that website as saying she never set out to be an influencer but jumped at a chance to be a student worker with the college’s social media account.

“I hope to convey how fun college can be if you make it fun,” she was quoted as saying on the website. “Yes, we are all here for the degree, but it doesn’t have to be all work — you should relax and take some time to enjoy it, too.

Becknell used the social media platform to show prospective students what an academic career could look like, the website reported.
