  • Brown makes big move, finishes...

Brandon Brown was back on the NGA Tour this past weekend.

And, in what has been the case in almost every Tour event he has played this year, he was back in contention.

  • This wasn’t the Same(s) old story

The Collins football team had a hot start – then iced things late – to beat Meade County on Friday night.

The Titans built a 21-0 halftime lead and held off the Green Wave’s second-half surge for a 21-14, season-opening victory in Brandenburg.

“It was a hard-fought game. The boys battled throughout,” Collins Coach Jerry Lucas said.

  • A rare bird is becoming even...

My first actual experience with the Black-billed Cuckoo was on Sept. 6, 1976, when I was able to discover the second nest of this species ever recorded in Kentucky.

It contained four eggs and was 8 feet above the ground in the Lyon County portion of the 170,000-acre Land-Between-the-Lakes National Recreational Area in Western Kentucky.

  • Collins opens against...

Meade County spoiled the Collins football team’s season-opener last year.

The Titans will try to return the favor against the Green Wave beginning at 7:30 tonight in Brandenburg.

However, Collins Coach Jerry Lucas knows it won’t be easy against the Class 6-A school.

Collins’ girls capture 1st 2 soccer matches

The Collins girls’ soccer team won its first two matches of the season.

The Titans topped host Kentucky Country Day, 1-0, Tuesday night, then followed up with a 6-0 victory at Meade County on Wednesday night.

Against KCD, Brittany Whitehead scored the goal, and Emily Hinkle had two saves.

Shelby Vogel had a hat trick against Meade, and Lindsey Ketchum had two goals and Whitehead the other.

  • Collins girls’ gol preview:...

Under its new coach, Collins girls’ golf team will continue to focus on the present but also have an eye on the future.

Once again this season the Titans will field a young team, with more than half its roster made up of middle-schoolers.

“We have some younger players, but if they keep up with it, they’ll be strong,” first-year Collins Coach Jeff Stein said.

SCHS girls’ golfers fade in Villa Madonna event

The Shelby County girls’ golf team finished sixth out of 10 teams at the Villa Madonna Invitational this past Saturday.

The Rockets carded a collective 357 in the more difficult of the two divisions, which only included three Kentucky teams. Massillon Jackson (Ohio) won with a 328, while one team from Sacred Heart Academy shot a 344 and another Valkyries squad fired a 345. Notre Dame Academy finished with a 352.

  • Rockets rally to district...

LAWRENCEBURG – Shelby County's volleyball victory at Anderson County Monday night really was as close as the final 2-point margin.

But the perspective on what happened in the tiebreaker was much wider.

Trailing, 6-1, with Anderson seeming to have everything going its way in the decisive game, Shelby County Coach Felicia Pace called timeout to give her team a very simple reminder.

“I told them we have to have some backbone,” Pace said. “We were not playing with it.”

  • Post 37 slammed out Legion...

SUMTER, S.C. – The slumbering bats of Alabama state champion Tuscaloosa, Ala., woke up in a big way when Alec Adamczyk banged a grand slam off the top of the left field-wall in the top of the sixth inning, launching Post 34 to a 13-4 victory over Shelbyville Post 37 in an elimination game in the American Legion baseball Southeast Regional tournament at Riley Park on Friday.
