    Shelby County sophomore-to-be Madison Thomas tied for fifth place overall and also won her age group at the Pepsi Junior Golf Tour’s girls’ Kentucky Junior Amateur Championship, which took place Monday and Tuesday at Maywood Golf Course at Bardstown Country Club.

    No she didn’t lose a bet. Thompson was in training. This weekend the Shelbyville bodybuilder hopes that preparation pays off in her first professional competition.

    Thompson will participate in the women’s pro physique division of the IFBB (International Federation of BodyBuilders) Wings of Strength Chicago Pro-Am.

  • Post 37 handles, tough weather,...

    The Shelbyville American Legion Post 37 baseball team won two games and lost two against some tough competition in Paducah at the end of last week.

    Shelbyville clobbered Cape Girardeau, Mo., 12-3, last Thursday in its first game in the Polk Brooks Tournament then lost a close game to Decatur, Ala., 5-3, Friday evening, before bouncing back to blank Paducah, 8-0, later that night. Vero Beach, Fla., then shut out Shelbyville, 4-0, Saturday to end Post 37’s weekend.

  • Cal Ripken 9-year-olds qualify...

    The Shelby County 9-year-old Cal Ripken All-Stars won the District 2 Tournament this past weekend.

    Shelby County beat host Scott County in a pair of games: 14-0 on Friday night and 9-4 Saturday morning. That earned Shelby County a spot in the state tournament, which begins next week in Lexington.

    Lindsey Wilson College sophomore-to-be Branden Cresap, a 2011 graduate of Collins, has been named a third-team preseason All-American by Beyond Sports College Network.

    Brandon Brown could earn another exemption this weekend.

    Brown, a professional golfer from Shelbyville who has already earned an exemption to play in a PGA Tour event later this summer, could earn one to a Nationwide Tour event in July.
