In support of prayer at public meetings

Ms. Allewalt [My Word, “For the benefit and blessing of the council – Musings on the Prayer Issue,” The Sentinel-News, May 28, 2014] it seems, never experienced a public prayer she liked in public meetings or governmental service meetings.

Marriage equality not for Gov. to decide

In my opinion, Governor Steve Beshear has no business pursuing the Same Sex Marriage appeal.  It is a personal issue that does not concern or affect anyone except those choosing to be married.

I’m glad he did not choose my partner in life.  My question to you is “would you want someone else to choose yours”?

Bible disputes need for Fairness Ordinance

I would like to reply to an article in last week’s edition by Rev. Fred Moffatt. Let me try to address each point individually.

    Live up to the Constitution

The drug cartels are laughing at us as we keep drugs illegal to insure their profits stay high to fuel our enemies in our own hemisphere toward the destruction of our own country. Usually by our own police and greedy officials who are rapidly destroying our U.S. Constitution with compete impunity.

    Questioning the courts

Even though I don’t write to the editor often, I am now because I have a concern with our judicial system in Shelby County. Attorneys from other counties have even told me that this court system is a lot like Mayberry.

I am 100 percent in favor of “you do the crime, you do the time,” but don't you think the same crime should carry the same sentence?

    Editorial is garbage

I have lived in Shelbyville since 1981, and I learned today one fellow writing an editorial is smarter and wiser about the betterment of Shelbyville than our elected officials. We can save tax dollars by selling city hall, abolishing the council seats, dismissing the city employees who work in city hall and simply let the wise one at The Sentinel-News operate our town (“WHAT WE THINK: City’s plan is pure garbage,” Feb. 26).

    A fair judge

The opinion column of Rebecca Wall (“We need to judge this judge,” My Word, Feb. 12) set forth her opinion of Judge John David Myles. Her divorce was filed in 2004. The court record of her case shows it was first settled in 2004, before Judge Myles was appointed and subsequently elected. Ms. Wall had several attorneys throughout the pendency of her case and all of whom have apparently withdrawn. After the last attorney withdrew, Ms. Wall mediated her case for a second time and an agreement was reached.

    Go smoke free

I am sure many in Shelby County have heard that there is a legislative campaign under way to pass a statewide, smoke-free law. I am one resident who supports this idea 100 percent.
