    Boost for organ donation

I wanted to thank Josh Cook for doing a column (“A gift that means life,” Feb. 13) organ donation. We at the circuit clerk’s office ask the question daily (Would you like to be a registered organ donor?) and hope we are making a difference when asking. Cook’s piece talked about his young friend Nolan and his life is a boost to the staff to know we are making a difference in someone’s life.

    Firearms extremists

This message concerns gun control and the recent school shooting. Though I own  firearms, I fully support President Obama's gun control proposals. Actually, they are a little weak.

    Ledco to be missed

On Jan. 28 there will be nothing left of a business that has been a pillar of Shelby County for over 30 years, Ledco. This will be such a sad day for many. I worked there for over 16 years, and when Masonite took over in 2010, it felt like we had a death in our family. When working for a family-owned business that Mr. Joseph Solomon worked so hard to build, all employees that work there for years really do become family.

    Help with tragedy

I'm not sure if you remember Aug. 6, 2011, but it will live with me forever. That day my life was changed in an instance. On the way back from Florida, my family and I were hit by a drunk driver. She never got the justice she deserved, but that's a whole other story. I lost my wife, Carolyn, and on Aug. 8 my son (stepson, but he was mine because I raised him and he saw me as daddy) passed away. I almost died. I had a 13 percent chance of living, but they were with me and I survived.

    Hunting dogs is illegal

I attended the meeting at the Waddy Ruritan Club concerning the recent attacks on animals in the area. My sympathies lie with the people whose animals were injured and/or killed, along with the animals themselves. It was especially heartbreaking to hear the story of the mutilated goats, and I realize that these animals need to be protected.

    Staff and teachers

     as first responders?

Regarding the Newtown massacre and the piece in “What We Think” (Dec. 19) the writer wrote  “…no step is too great to protect our children.”

    A jolly, folly Christmas

Shop, shop, shop, shop, sleep, eat, shop

Lord have mercy, make it stop!!!

Wrap, wrap, wrap, wrap, eat, sleep, wrap,

Bake, bake, bake, bake, eat, sleep, bake

How much more a mom can take!

Put the tree up, hang the lights,

Oh Lord, give me one more night!

I need to hide the gifts we bought

from a child who has one thought -

I want this and I want that,

Now I know why Santa's fat!
