    Hornback named to committee
    overseeing tobacco settlement

    State Sen. Paul Hornback (R-Shelbyville) has been appointed by his colleagues to serve as co-chair of the Tobacco Settlement Agreement Fund Oversight Committee.
    This committee reviews matters pertaining to the Agricultural Development Board, including requests to the board for grants and loans.  It also oversees investments that will assist farmers and the administrative, financial, and programmatic activities of the board.

  • No one injured in wild wreck on I-64

    No one was injured in a tumbling, single-vehicle accident on I-64 Thursday morning that caused a traffic backup for several hours.

    The accident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. and clogged the westbound lane between Exit 32 and 35 until noon because only one lane was open to traffic.

    The principal and students decorated the walkway with chalk on Sunday night for the teachers at Painted Stone in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week. The theme was "a walk of fame."

    Shaw honored at Georgetown

    Taylor Shaw was named to the dean's list for the fall semester of 2010 at Georgetown College. The list is composted of students who have earned a term grade-point average of 3.7 or above. Shaw was accepted as a lifetime member of Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society. She also plays outfield on the school's softball team.

  • Allen chosen to attend national affairs summit

    Shelby County High School sophomore Shawn Allen has been accepted to the Conference on National Affairs that is held over a 5-day period in the Black Mountains of North Carolina.

    Allen said the process for CONA this time was "scary" since about 95 applied for the 25 slots.
