  • Truck driver identified in fatal crash

    The identity of a truck driver that died in a single-vehicle fatal crash on La Grange Road has been identified, according to the Shelby County Coroner’s office.

    Jingbin Tang, 50, of Illinois, was killed Tuesday afternoon in the accident on La Grange Road near Fox Run Road as he was delivering a load of seafood.

    Because witnesses had seen him driving erratically just prior to the accident and because he had not tried to brake, police had speculated that Tang had run off the road and crashed into a tree head on because of a medical condition.

  • Shelby man arrested for sex crime

    A Shelbyville man has been arrested and charged with sex charges in connection with a female relative under the age of 18 years old.

    Rogelio Rodriguez, 37, was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree sexual abuse.

    A Shelbyville Police report says that Rodriguez has been abusing the girl for four years, by fondling her, along with other activities, with the last such incident occurring at 4 a.m. Monday, when the girl rejected his physical advances by kicking him.

  • Car theft in Waddy springs from Craig’s List

    A Nicholasville man had his car stolen Saturday morning from a Waddy truck stop and police say they are not optimistic about getting it back.

    Robert Young, 37, had placed his wife’s car for sale on Craig’s List, and had been contacted by someone who had expressed interested in buying it, said Shelby County Sheriff’s Detective Maj. Jason Rice.

    Sherry L. Epperson, 47, of 603 Russell Ave. in La Grange was arrested March 25 on Taylorsville Road and charged with third-degree burglary.



    Eduardo Suarez-Cruz, 28, of 213 A St. was arrested April 3 on Eminence Pike and charged with no operator’s license and second-degree wanton endangerment.

  • Shelby County Sheriff Warrants

    Leroy Parker, 61, of 2358 South 5th St. in Columbus, Ohio, was arrested Feb. 23 at 401 Main St. on a Shelby County warrant for an unstated charge.

    Ebony Elaine Marshall, 26, of 5074 Hawaiian Terrace in Cincinnati, Ohio, was served Feb. 25 at the Shelby County Detention Center on a Henry County warrant for an unstated charge.

    Wendi M. Branstetter, speeding 18 mph over limit and first-offense failure of owner to maintain required insurance/security – guilty – insurance monitoring for 12 months and $643 fine and costs, $400 conditionally discharged.

  • No injuries in Purnell fire

    There were no injuries at a fire that broke out at Purnell’s Old Folk’s sausage plant in Simpsonville on Saturday, and the plant was not damaged severely, officials said.

    Simpsonville Fire Chief Ronnie Sowder said the fire started just after 6 p.m. at the plant in the 6900 block of Shelbyville Road.

    Sowder said the fire, which was electrical in nature, happened in the freezer room and that it was contained by the sprinkler system.

    Shelby County Fire Department responded to provide mutual aid, he said.
