    Helton named to dean’s list at Union

    Robin Helton of Shelbyville was among the 395 named to Union University dean's list

 for the fall 2015 semester. The dean's list includes full-time students who achieve a 3.5 grade point average on a four-point scale. Union offers liberal arts training in more than 100 majors and programs of study along with professional programs in business, education and nursing.

  • Student/citizens of the month at Shelby County Area Technology Center

    The following students enrolled at the Shelby County Area Technology Center have received the Student of the Month for December which is a student who is exemplary in the academic areas of the classroom – Amy Sanchez: business; Courtney Najjar: health science informatics; Brianna Bratcher: health science; Kristen Wood: health science; Wesley Caldwell: information technology; Tyler Rucker: machine tool; Carlos Avila: industrial maintenance; Garrett Jeffries: math/English.

  • ‘Much Ado About Nothing’

    Students in Donna Moody’s sophomore English class at Cornerstone Christian Academy re-enacted portions of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing.” Members of the group were (from left) Ernesto Castellano, Dallas Garriott, Dwayne Zapata, Brandt Ladner, Celia Mikels, Keaton Reed, Olivia Snowden, Dylan Lanham, Emma Hendricks, Ragen Hebert, Annie Clifton, Marin Bennett, Isaac Crumbacker, Shelby Hogan, Aidan Barbour and Matthew Morehead.

    “I never imagined so many TV cameras would be here,” Chloe gasped. “You’re going to be famous, Woody!”

    I wanted to remind Chloe that Woody’s Bathe No More Body Rub had given me an allergic reaction, crushing my dreams of becoming an entrepreneur and leaving me with a lampshade on my head. I was hardly famous.

  • SCPS students at KYA

    Ninety students in sixth to eighth grades from Shelby East and West middle schools and Collins and Shelby County high schools joined 1,000 other students from around the commonwealth for the 2015 session of the Kentucky Youth Assembly (KYA). Students were especially proud and eager to attend this year due to Jacob Hisle of Collins and Ben Brown pf SCHS presiding as Governor and Speaker of the House, respectively.
