  • High school students accepted to Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts program

    This summer, The Kentucky Center will host more than 200 eager young artists from every region of the commonwealth, as The Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) takes place at Danville’s Centre College through July 12.

  • Local students graduates from Transylvania

    Casey McBride graduated from Transylvania University with a BA in psychology. She was the president of the student activities board, secretary of Chi Omega sorority, recipient of the J. Richard Thompson Leadership award and was accepted into the Teach for America program, which sends teachers to underserved schools. Casey has accepted a position at a school in St. Louis. She is the daughter of Leslie and Stephen McBride of Waddy and the granddaughter of W.H. and Iris Brown of Bagdad and Jane Anderson of Louisville.

  • Former student to represent Kentucky

    Julianna Leach, has been chosen to represent Kentucky as a National Youth Delegate to the 2014 Washington D.C. Youth Summit on the Environment at George Mason University this month.

  • Cornerstone graduation

    The 2014 Cornerstone Christian Academy graduating class of 14 seniors earned $1,058,554 in scholarships and awards, and 100 percent of the class is college-bound. Members of the graduating class were (front row from left) Zion Gonzalez, Daisy Zapata, Callie Rose, Chase Troutman, Rebekah Woodward, Rachel White (Valedictorian), Ruth Hagan; (back row) Jerrit Brooks, John McKinney, Ben McKinney, Rebekah Lee, Jacob Tipton (Salutatorian), Gage Holloway, Nate Oates.

  • Thompson graduates from VMI

    William R. Thompson of Shelbyville was among 317 cadets graduating from Virginia Military Institute. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a military history concentration. Graduating honors include with distinction, honors in history, Marine Corps commission and distinguished Marine Corp grad. He was also among the 680 cadets who were named to the dean’s list for the second semester of academic year 2013-14. To be eligible, cadets must have a term grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and no grade below C.

    Baylor University dean’s list
    Included in the Baylor University dean's academic honor list for the 2014 spring semester was Jenna Celeste Rogers of Simpsonville, college of arts and sciences. To be named to the dean's list, a student must be an undergraduate with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7, while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours.
