  • Does Anybody Really Know What Time it is? Does anybody really care?

    By Jerry Cappel

Have you heard of the term, “Body Burden”?

It is a term that describes the impact of the accumulation of toxins in our bodies – the pollution that permeates everyone in the world. You carry a certain level of “body burden” just from the fact that you breathe air, walk on carpets, cross streets, eat food, drink water and have permeable skin.

  • Don’t simply seek easy news

    By Dave Charlton

Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, “go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.”

    – Luke 14:21

This is not the column I had prepared for today’s edition of The Sentinel-News.

  • Christ kept his wounds and so can we

    By Jerry Cappel

Most of us want to look our best, put our best foot forward and never let them see us sweat.

We hide our advancing waistlines and receding hairlines, and present happy faces on our Facebook storylines.  But there is an interesting story in the Gospel of John that invites us to see this differently.

  • The complicated history of France, Notre Dame

    By Dave Charlton

In May of 2015 my wife and I were in Paris, and among the many places we anticipated visiting in the city, at the top of our list was the cathedral of Notre Dame.

  • Practice Easter resurrection

    By Jerry Cappel

This weekend, churches all around the world (the Orthodox will be a week later) will be pulling out all the stops – that is a reference to a pipe organ, by the way – to do their best to put on a celebration of Easter Sunday.

  • To keep earth ‘very good,’ changes are needed

    By Dave Charlton

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

    – Genesis 1:31

My hometown is in the northern panhandle of West Virginia, on the banks of the Ohio River.

That part of the country has been, historically, coal and steel country. In my growing up years, the sides of the mountains were deeply scarred by strip mining, and the Ohio River was heavily polluted by the waste from the mills.
