• Shelby resident completing 1,700-plus hours of service

    Rachel Price of Shelbyville is serving on the final project with the AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) North Central Region. Price and their team are serving with The Black Hills Works.

    NCCC Members are supervising individuals with disabilities and helping them with a variety of tasks, such as art projects, working in the kitchen, cleaning, putting together medical kits, exercising and playing games.

  • Armed Force News: Sybil M. Jones

    Army National Guard Spec. Sybil M. Jones graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla., as an honor graduate and received a letter of commendation.

    Jones is the daughter of Diane Miesner of Shelbyville. She is married to Mark Jones, the son of Walter Jones of Lowville, N.Y.

    She is a 1995 graduate of Carthage High School in New York. She earned an associate degree in 2006 from Jefferson Community College, Watertown, N.Y., and a bachelor's degree in 2012 from the State University of New York, Plattsburgh.

  • 40th anniversary: Bill and Phyllis Hedges

    Bill and Phyllis Hedges of Elmburg have been married for 40 years. The couple was married on Oct. 27, 1972.

    She is the former Phyllis Bailey of Elmburg and is a finance manager at Bluegrass Spine Care.

    He is the fourth district Shelby County magistrate and drives for Long Transport.

    They are the parents of David (Anna) Hedges of Cropper and Jessica (Damon) Turner of New Castle. The couple has one grandson and three granddaughters.

  • Birth: Bradly son

    Brandon and Samantha Bradley of Shelbyville announce the birth of their first child, a son, on Sept. 24, 2012, at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville. He has been named Joseph Dale Bradley.

    Grandparents are Steve and Rhonda Bradley of Shelbyville and Brent and Teri Walters of La Grange.

    Great-grandparents are Don and Sue Bradley of Shelbyville, Tommy and Ruth West of Ashland and Janice McGhee of Columbus, Ohio.

  • Armed Force News: Allan Ritchey

    Army Pvt. Allan Ritchey has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

    The boot camp was completed in 9 weeks.

    Ritchey is the son of Billy Mitchell of Frankfort and is a 2009 graduate of Shelby County High School.

  • Armed Force News: Taylor W. Matthews

    Air Force Airman Taylor W. Matthews graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

    He completed an 8-week program and also earned four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

    Matthews is the son of Kim Matthews of Shelbyville and a 2009 graduate of Shelby County High School.

  • 50th anniversary: JoAnn and Howard Shelburne

    Howard and JoAnn Shewmaker Shelburne of Simpsonville have been married for 50 years. The couple was married on Nov. 2, 1962, by Howard Shelburne’s brother, Rev. Ivan Shelburne, at Taylorsville Christian Church.

    They have one son, Troy Shelburne, who is married to Dana, and one daughter, Melissa Todd and who is married to Jason Todd. All of them live in Taylorsville. They also have five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
