• Shelby County 1962 class reunion

    Shelby County High School’s 1962 graduating class met at Claudia Sanders Dinner House in Shelbyville on Nov. 3. There were 45 of the 93 surviving classmates in attendance. As the event came to an end, class members discussed having another reunion in two years.

  • Toys for Tots

    The Shelbyville Moose Riders Lodge 1715 present representatives of the Shelby County High School ROTC and National Guard with $825 of toys for the Toys for Tots program. The riders held a Toys for Tots ride in July and received monetary donations and toys for this program. The club participates in this fundraiser each year.

    Jon and Jennifer Way of Bagdad announce the birth of their first child, a son, on Nov. 11, 2012, at Baptist East Hospital. He has been named Mason Oliver Way. He was born at 11:05 a.m., weighing 6 pounds and 5.8 ounces and 19 ¾ inches long.

    Grandparents are Charles and Brenda Reese of Simpsonville, John and Janice Way.

    Great-grandparents are Patsy Jones of Shelbyville, Marian Gordon of Frankfort, the late James Jones, the late Leonard and Juanita Reese, and the late Charles and Birdie Way.

  • Birth: Sowder son

    Bradley and Misty Sowder of Shelbyville announce the birth of their second child, a son, on Oct. 1, 2012, at Central Baptist in Lexington. He has been named Elliot Dathan Sowder. He was welcomed home by his parents and a sister, Makenzie.

    Grandparents are C.B and Kim Sage-Sowder of Shelbyville, Darrell and Carol Cox of Bagdad.

    Great-grandparents are D.C. Sowder of Bardstown and the late Christine Sowder; Fred and Sam Sage of Florida; Harold Cox of Bagdad and the late Shirley Cox; Frank Kane of Florida; and the late Jean Lewis.

  • 50th anniversary: Johnny and Joyce Spaulding

    Johnny and Joyce Spaulding have been married for 50 years. They were married on Dec. 1, 1962, in Mercer County.

    She is the former Joyce Kinder. He is a former employee of Black and Decker. They are members of Christiansburg Baptist Church.

    They are parents of Tim Spaulding of Bagdad and Chris Spaulding of Shelbyville and have seven grandchildren.

    A party was held in their honor with family and friends on Nov. 25 at the Shelbyville Fire Department.

  • Jenkins wedding

    Sarah Marie and Stephen Patrick Jenkins IV were married Oct. 27, 2012, in a private ceremony in Shelby County.

    Parents of the bride are Richard and Virginia Hill of Shelby County. The groom is the son Steve and Janet Jenkins of Shelby County.

    Jonathan P. Walls, uncle of the bride, officiated the double-ring ceremony.

  • Christmas with Monarchs

    Corpus Christi Academy will host its sixth annual Spirit of Christmas Dance, featuring the Monarchs (shown here at the 2011 event), on Saturday at the Shelbyville Country Club lodge. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m., and dancing will be 8-11 p.m. A full cash bar and complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be available. Tickets are $60 per couple or $35 for singles. Seating is limited.   • Engagement: Decker-Schmidt

    Jennifer and William Decker of Shelby County announce the engagement of their daughter, Jessica Decker, to Daniel Schmidt. He is the son of Dale and Thomas Schmidt of Lexington.

    Decker graduated from Centre College in 2008, earning a bachelor’s degree in economics and minor degrees in government, political science, and mathematics. In 2011 she also earned a master’s degree in public administration. Since 2008 she has been employed by Merrill Lynch as a registered client associate and resident director's assistant.

  • Scouting for food

    Cub Scouts, their parents, and pack leaders of Cub Scout Pack 270, sponsored by Shelby Christian Church, participated in the national Scout-for-Food program in November. The scouts collected more than 550 items – canned and packaged food – and delivered them to the Serenity Center on Frankfort Road for its food bank.
