• Jones graduates basic training

    Army Pvt. Timothy M. Jones has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga.

    Jones is the son of Charles Lee Davis of Narrow Gage Pike in Eminence and the grandson of Linda Murphy and Charles Davis, both of Shelbyville. He is a 2011 graduate of Shelby County High School.

    Crescent Place Assisted Living had its annual valentine’s party on Feb. 14 and crowned the king and queen and the valentine couple. The 2013 king (from left) was Dudley Scearce, queen was Bobbye McCarthy and the Valentine couple was Martha and Ray Quire.

    Nolan Payton celebrated his first birthday on March 1, 2012.

    He is the son of Todd Payton and Jennifer Thomas of Eminence.

    Grandparents are Debbie Thomas of Pleasureville and Betty Evans of New Castle. Great-grandparents are Maurice Payton of New Castle and the late Minnie Payton.

  • Engagement: Bohannon-Mitchell

    Dana McAllister of Simpsonville and Pete Bohannon of Southville announce the engagement of their daughter, Brittany Jean Bohannon, to Michael Paul Mitchell, both of Simpsonville. He is the son of Ruth Cook of Shelbyville and Paul Mitchell of Lawrenceburg.

    She is a 2004 graduate of Shelby County High School and is the activities director for Crestview Nursing Home.

    He is a 1997 graduate of Shelby County High School and works in maintenance at Pilot Travel Center.

  • 98th birthday: Ruth Duncan

    Ruth Duncan celebrated her 98th birthday with family and friends on Feb. 18 at Crescent Place Assisted Living. Duncan was a World War II veteran as well as a teacher at Bagdad school for years. She has one son, Jim Duncan of Frankfort.


  • Engagement: Clark-Blythe

    Eddie and Ann Doyle of Finchville announce the engagement of their daughter, Catherine Ray Clark, to Cameron Scott Blythe.

    He is son of Scott and Lesa Blythe of Russellville.

    She is the granddaughter of Ray Moss and the late Sallye Tucker and Clarence and Barbara Sue Doyle. He is the grandson of JoAnn Brooks of Lewisburg and the late William Brooks, Judy Murphy, Jesse and Roberta Blythe, all of Russellville, and the late Starling Murphy.

  • Library staff attends conference

    Public libraries in Kentucky are planning summer programs to keep children reading and learning. The Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives held Kentucky’s first summer reading conference in Cave City, home of the underground wonder, Mammoth Cave. Shelby County Library staffers attending were (from left) Shana Schack, bookmobile librarian; Sarahbeth Farabee, youth services librarian; and Elaine Johnson, assistant youth services.

  • Project Linus blanket day

    Crescent Place hosted Project Linus national blanket day on Saturday. Volunteers from the area made seven blankets and raised donations for the project to help area children in need.     Kelly Willoughby and Derek Jones were married Jan. 12, 2013, in Soiree in Oldham County.

    Parents of the bride are Elwood and Beverly Willoughby of Shelbyville. The groom is the son of Walter and Kathy Jones of Simpsonville.

    Wedding music was provided by AZD Studios.

    Rev. Paul Whitman officiated the double-ring ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by her father.

    Matron of honor was Kasie Nutter of Shelbyville, sister of the bride.

    Some seniors from Shelby County High and Collins High Schools took a group trip to New York City. This photo was taken in Central Park. They also toured the city; saw the 911 memorial, "Mamma Mia" and Blue Man Group; experienced the Chinese New Year in Chinatown; and sang on the stage at Radio City Music Hall.
