    Some seniors from Shelby County High and Collins High Schools took a group trip to New York City. This photo was taken in Central Park. They also toured the city; saw the 911 memorial, "Mamma Mia" and Blue Man Group; experienced the Chinese New Year in Chinatown; and sang on the stage at Radio City Music Hall.

  • Birth: Barger daughter

    Shelley and Alan Barger of Tampa, Fla. announce the birth of their second child, a daughter, on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013. She has been named Emerson Grace Barger.

    She was born at 9:36 a.m., weighing 7.13 pounds and was 20.5 inches long. Her older sister, Ella is 2 ½years old.

    Grandparents are Hite Hays of Shelbyville, Judy and Duvall Burk of Shelbyville, and Gail and George Barger of Richmond.

    Great-grandparent is Leon Fritz of Bybee.

  • Birth: Carlson son

    Philip and Loren Carlson of Louisville announce the birth of their first child, a son, on Jan. 14, 2013, at Baptist East Hospital. He has been named Harvey Lloyd Carlson.

    Grandparents are Doug and Cathy Carlson of Shelbyville, Lloyd and Cyndi Rayburn and Kathy Meinfelter of Ashland.

  • Thompson marches in presidential inaugural parade

    William R. Thompson, a Virginia Military Institute cadet from Shelby County, was among the approximately 1,500 who marched in this year's presidential inaugural parade.

    VMI’s Corps of Cadets marched from the U.S. capitol to the reviewing stand at the White House. The corps was the final group in the parade, passing the president in review at about 6:30 p.m.

    Thompson is the son of Jean Shy of Shelbyville.

    Senior Aaliyah Wells was crowned Collins Homecoming Queen on Saturday night during halftime of the Titans’ game against Harrison County.

  • Willard wedding: Becky and Austin Willard

    Becky and Austin Willard were married Sept. 22, 2012, at Tates Creek Presbyterian Church.

    Mother of the bride is Barbara Staton of Lexington. The groom is the son of Dee Lisa Willard of Shelbyville and Willie Willard of Waddy.

    Wedding music was provided by LeeAnn Raleigh, Greg Finer and Luke Wisley.

    Will Witherington and Robert Cunningham officiated the double-ring ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by her two brothers, Shawn and Chris Staton.

  • Cornerstone homecoming spirit week

    Cornerstone Christian Academy basketball Homecoming was Jan. 18. Ashley Hamblin and Josh Woodward, both seniors, were crowned queen and king by former graduates and reigning king and queen from 2012, Dustin Bennett and Tara Watkins. The Homecoming dance was held at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Frankfort.

    Ryan and Jessie Smith of Shelbyville announce the birth of their second child, a son, on Jan. 6, 2013, at Norton Suburban Hospital. He has been named Noah Robert Smith.

    Grandparents are Rob and Janevera Rothenburger and Jim and Teresa Smith, all of Shelbyville.
