• 60th anniversary: Rogers

    Betty and Marvin Rogers have been married for 60 years. The couple were married on Aug. 25, 1953, in Shelbyville by Ray Alexander Jr.

    She is the former Betty Sorrell of Bagdad and is retired from American Greetings. He is retired from the postal service, where he was manager of budget and financial analysis in the Louisville Post Office.

    They have two children, Connie Cocanougher and Barry Rogers, both of Shelby County, two grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

    They celebrated with friends and family at Hometown Buffet.

  • 65th Anniversary: Collings

    Dorothy and James Collings have been married for 65 years.

    They were married on Aug. 3, 1948, at Duncan Memorial Chapel.

    They celebrated with a candlelight dinner and a family celebration at Crescent Place Assisted Living.

  • Armed Forces: Young

    Air Force Airman Stephen S. Young graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas.

    Young is the son of David and Robin Young of Bagdad and a 2010 graduate of Shelby County High School.

  • Wedding: Spaulding

    Arminta Brooke Tyraof Stanton and Cody Thomas Spaulding of Shelbyville were married June 15, 2013, at the estate of Judge Sarah B. Combs in Stanton.

    Parents of the bride are Rick and Jackie Tyra of Stanton. The groom is the son of Chris and Lisa Spaulding of Shelbyville.

    Combs officiated the ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by her father, Rick Tyra.

    Honor attendant was Tenny Ostrem of Wolfe, friend of bride.

  • NACCP scholarships given

    Kirstin Dugle and Jordan Olivia Goss receive Eunice Marie Payne Reed scholarships from the Shelbyville Area NACCP Branch. They completed scholarship applications and wrote 300-word essays to be selected. Kirstin will attend the University of Kentucky, and Jordan is going to Western Kentucky University. Each received $250.

  • Shelby boys at ‘ranch’

    The Kentucky Sheriffs’ Boys and Girls Ranch summer camp for 2013 marks 38 years of summer camps. The camp is free, thanks to the dedication and support of sheriffs, members and contributors.   • 10th anniversary: Rev. John and Mary Spurley

    Rev. John and Mary Spurley of Shelbyville celebrated their 10th year wedding anniversary on June 7, 2013, with a limo ride to Louisville with family and friends and dinner at Ruth Chris Steakhouse.

    The couple was married on June 7, 2003, at Victory Worship Center in Louisville.

    He is a retired minister of St. Luke Baptist in Louisville. She retired from the state.

    She is the mother of Ramonda Yocum of Shelbyville and they are grandparents of Tashara “Nikki” Simmons and Jalahaya Spurley.
