• 50th anniversary: Lonnie and Janice DeSpain

    Lonnie and Janice DeSpain of Simpsonville will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday. The couple was married in 1963 by the justice of the peace.

    He is a retired farmer. She is the former Janice Dodd and a retired cook from Oaklawn Nursing and Rehab in Jefferson County.

    They have four children John (Tina) and Jeromy DeSpain of Simpsonville, Joseph DeSpain of Taylorsville and Jennifer (Larry) Likes of Eastwood.

  • 50th anniversary: Don and Reda Stucker

    Don and Reda Stucker have been married for 50 years. The couple was married on Aug. 3, 1963, at Pigeon Forks Baptist Church by the Rev. Bernard (Beno) Perry.

    The Stuckers celebrated at Beechridge Baptist Church with family and friends.

    They have two children, Tim and Lisa, son-in-law Kevin Nunn, grandchildren Brittany and Dean, and great grandchildren Hunter Lee and Lily Katherine.

  • 50th anniversary: John and Mary Shannon

    John and Mary Shannon Bradshaw of Waddy have been married for 50 years. The couple was married on Aug. 1, 1963, in Livingston, Tenn.

    He is retired from General Electric Appliance Park. She is the former Mary Shannon Rankin and retired from Shelby County government as county treasurer.

    They have one daughter, Shannon Bradshaw, a son-in-law, Gregory A. Darst, and two grandchildren, Laura Kathryn and Matthew Gregory, all of Waddy.

    They will celebrate at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Waddy Ruritan Club, 1171 Kings Highway.

  • Engagement: Rogers-Roberts

    Tony and Gail Rogers of New Castle announce the engagement of their daughter, Shelly Faye Rogers, to Justin “Cooter” Roberts. He is the son of Larry and Cindy Roberts of Louisville.

    She is the granddaughter of Harriett Phillips and the late Sylvester Phillips and Aver Mae and Jesse Lee Rogers. She is a 1997 graduate of Shelby County High School and is owner of Painting by Shelly.

  • 50th anniversary: Donald and Rita Nichols Waits

    Donald and Rita Nichols Waits of Shelbyville will celebrate their 50th anniversary.

    The couple was married on July 26, 1963, by Rev. William Jones at the Hempridge Baptist Church.

    A reception will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the fellowship hall at Dover Baptist Church. All friends, neighbors and family are invited to attend. The couple requests no gifts.

  • Engagement: Best-Forrest

    Todd and Angela Best of Waddy announce the engagement of their daughter, Taylor Best of Waddy, to Logan Forrest of Shelbyville. He is the son of Jim Forrest of Shelbyville.

    She is a student at Eastern Kentucky University studying nursing.

    He is also a student at EKU, studying accounting and military science.

    The wedding will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 3, 2013, in Frankfort.

  • Engagement: Hawkins-Waldridge

    Timothy and Lora Hawkins of Shelbyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Cayla Rae Hawkins of Taylorsville, to Anthony Shane Waldridge of Taylorsville. He is the son of Greta Ames, A.J. Waldridge and Gladys Waldridge, all of Taylorsville.

    The wedding will take place at 7 p.m., Sept. 14, 2013, at theCaryonah Hunting Lodge in Tennessee.

    Jackson Reed celebrated his first birthday July 24, 2013.

    He is the son of Rebecca and Jason Reed of Shelbyville.

    Grandparents are William and Carol Jackson, Glenn and Roxana Reed, all of Shelbyville. Great-grandparent is Lela Jackson of Louisville.

  • Wedding: Summitt

    Carrie Jones and David Summitt were married on June 29, 2013.

    Parents of the bride are Cindy and Frank Morgan, and Ray and Elaine Whitaker. The groom is the son of Geraldine Hockensmith and the late James Summitt.

    The maid of honor was Tabby Jones, daughter of the bride.

    The best man was James Summitt Jr., brother of the groom.

  • Birth: Jeffers daughter

    Jason and Amy Jeffers of Shelbyville announce the birth of their second child, a daughter, on June 27, 2013 at Baptist Health. She has been named Kennedy KayAnne Jeffers. She was born at 7:48 a.m., weighing 9 pounds 2 ounces, and was 21.75 inches long. She has an older sister, 2-year-old Noel.

    Grandparents are L. Leon and Judy Gill of Shelbyville, Clarence and Lois Jeffers of Louisville.
