    Cornerstone Christian Academy held its Homecoming dance on Saturday night. Queen and King were seniors Callie Rose and Jerrit Brooks.

  • Irick-Redmon wedding

    Emma Caitlin Irick and Austin Lee Redmon were married on Sept. 21 on the bride’s family farm in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

    The couple met during their time at Morehead State University.

    Parents of the bride are Kathy Irick and John Purdy of Troy, Ohio. The groom is the son of Stephen and Veronica Brown of Bagdad.

    The ceremony was officiated by Kyle Wiley, pastor of Bagdad Baptist Church, and the bride’s brother, David Irick.

    The maid of honor was Keight Davis of Louisa, and the best man was John Johnson of Bagdad.

  • SCHS Homecoming queen

    Shelby County High School senior Alex Skellie was named Homecoming queen on Friday during the Rockets' game with Anderson County. She is escorted by Matthew Perry.

  • Watts graduates basic training

    Army National Guard Pfc. Damian H. Watts graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga.

    During the 9 weeks of training, Watts received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

  • Engagement: Rodgers-Schmidt

    Bob and Paula Bryant of Waddy announce the engagement of their daughter, Emily Rodgers, to Dustin Schmidt. He is the son of Ron and Joyce Schmidt of Louisville.

    The wedding will take place at 7 p.m. June 21, 2014, at The Grand in New Albany, Ind.

    Invitations will be sent for the wedding and reception.

  • Hope wedding

    Jordan Elizabeth Powell and Nicholas Kyle Hope were married on Oct. 12, 2013.

    Parents of the bride are Jerry and Joyce Powell of Eminence. The groom is the son of Gerald and Susan Hope of Louisville.

    The couple resides in Louisville.

    Donna Moody’s sophomore English II class at Cornerstone Christian Academy re-enacted portions of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.

  • 80th birthday: Hutcherson

    Betty Joyce Hutcherson will celebrate her 80th birthday at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Crestview Health Center, 1871 Midland Trail in Shelbyville, with a cake-and-punch reception for family and friends.

    During the past80 years Joyce has seen corners of the world most only dream of. She reestablished the Old Stone Inn in Simpsonville, which still holds a legacy of her authorship and beauty, raised a  family that now boasts eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

    Zach and Mandy Cox of Shelbyville announce the birth of their first child, a daughter, on Dec. 6, 2013, at Baptist Hospital North East. She has been named MaKinley Nell Cox.

    Grandparents are Mitzi and Darren Redmon of Southville, Stephanie Whortenbury of Shelbyville, Dawson Cox of Frankfort and Mark Goodman of New Albany, Ind.

    Great-grandparents are Donnie and Margaret Redmon of Cropper, Margaret Masters and Kenneth Lowry, both of Frankfort, and Robert and Maxine Goodman of Middletown.

  • Birth: Lydia Grace Prewitt

    Aaron and Melissa Prewitt of Pleasureville announce the birth of their second child, a daughter, on Oct. 25, 2013, at Decatur General Hospital in Decatur, Ala. She has been named Lydia Grace Prewitt.

    Grandparents are Ricky and Nancy Drawbaugh and Kenny and Lois Prewitt, all of Shelbyville.

    Great-grandparents are Freeman and Dorothy Lyons of Pleasureville, Homer and Janice Clem of Athens, Ala., Willard and Betty Chesser of Bloomfield and Kenneth Prewitt of Shelbyville.
