  • Junior Miss contestant

    Angela Cook of Shelbyville will participate in the Kentucky Junior Miss program

    January 14-15 in Lexington.

    Founded in 1958 America's Junior Miss is the largest and oldest national scholarship program for high school girls.

    On Jan. 15, Kentucky's Junior Miss will officially change its name to Distinguished Young Women of Kentucky as part of a national rebranding.

  • Engagement: Judd-Davis

    Joey and Anissa Judd of Shelbyville and Brian and Cynthia Snyder of Japan announce the engagement of their daughter, Mara Elizabeth Judd of Warren, Ohio, to Michael William Davis of Canfield, Ohio. He is the son of William and Kathleen Davis of Girard, Ohio.

    A small, intimate ceremony and reception will be 1:30 p.m. in Boardman, Ohio.

  • 50th anniversary: Willard

    Maurice and Jeanie Willard will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 21, 2011. The couple were married in 1961 at the Eminence Baptist Church.

    They have three children, Scott Willard of Georgetown, Todd Willard of Louisville and Beth Lane of Rio Rancho, N.M. They have four grandchildren, Adam and Sam Willard of Louisville and Allison and Christian Lane of Rio Rancho, N.M.

    Maurice is retired from General Electric, and Jeanie retired from The Sentinel-News.

  • 60th anniversary: Bohannon

    Ardith and Ronald Bohannon will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary at 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Cropper Baptist Church C.L.C. building. All family and friends are invited. No gifts please.

    The Bohannon's are parents of two daughters, Susan Edington (Dan) of Madisonville and Rhonda Bohannon of Cincinnati. They have two grandchildren, Cassie and Johnathan Edington.

  • I'm one: DeSimone

    Addison Faith DeSimone celebrated her first birthday Nov. 14, 2010.

    She is the daughter of Chip and Casey DeSimone of Shelbyville.

    Grandparents are Rob and Janevera Rothenburger of Shelbyville, Tony and Linda DeSimone of Carrollton, Ohio. Great-grandparents are Edward and Joanna Simon of Shelbyville and Clara Bendle of Amsterdam, Ohio. Great-great-grandmother is Sylvia Mattiussi of Lyndon.

  • Wedding: Burgin

    Catherine May Page and Matthew Scott Burgin were married Sept. 25 at the Church of the Annunciation in Shelbyville.

    Parents of the bride are Marty and Rachael Page of Finchville. The groom is the son of Jack and Michelle Samples of Bagdad and the late Jeffery Scott Burgin. Grandparents of the bride are Jim Conti, Harold and Merilynn Page and Pauline Butler, all of Louisville, and the late Mary Catherine Conti and Delores May Page. Grandparents of the groom are Alvin and Janet Burgin of Mount Eden, Bill and Alma Coulter of Taylorsville and the late Selbert and Nell Samples.

  • Chili cook-off

    The community of Charleston Way, which is just south of Shelbyville, had its annual homeowners association meeting at the Stratton Center, and nine residents competed in a chili cook-off, with members of Shelbyville Fire and Rescue as judges. With the Shelbyville Fire and Rescue Team Station 3 are (starting fourth from left) Chester Rice, who receives $50 for second place, Ardie Morris, who accepts for Philip Morris, third-place ($25) winner, and Cecil Goodloe, who receives $100 for first place.

  • 5 generation: Sanford

    5-generations of the Sanford family gathered recently for a photograph.   • Wedding: McNeal

    Mandi and Vince McNeal were married on Oct. 17 in the garden of the Bodley Bullock House in Lexington.

    Mandi McNeal is the daughter of Dee Lisa Willard of Shelbyville and Willie Willard of Waddy.

    The groom is the son of Teresa Schmidt of Oldham County.

    Wedding music was provided by Forrest and Emily Coleman, who sang "The Love I Found in You" and "This Day." Sound was provided by Luke Wisely.

  • Scout food drive

    Members of Boy Scout Pack and Troop 270, sponsored by Shelby Christian Church, participated in the annual Scouting for Food Drive. This year they collected nearly 1,200 items of food. The food was donated to the Serenity Center.
