A woman who was injured when she was struck by a car while crossing Midland Trail near the newly opened Dorman Center Bingo Hall is out of the hospital.

Flossie Hunt, 71, of Bagdad was struck last Friday as she was attempting to cross the street in front of the hall, which located at 1857 Midland Trail.

A report by Shelbyville Police Department said that Hunt was struck by a vehicle driven by Sara Brewer, 30, of Shelbyville, who told officers that she was driving between 40 to 45 miles per hour on Midland Trail when she saw a woman standing in her lane near the yellow line that designates  the median turn lane. She told officers that she tried to swerve to miss the woman but could not.

Hunt was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital with unspecified injuries but has been released.

The report said that the accident was caused by Hunt’s walking in the roadway.

Shelbyville Police Chief Danny Goodwin said Hunt was struck mostly by the vehicle’s mirror.

He said the accident is the first he is aware of in which a pedestrian has been struck by a car at that location.
