This year, the honoring of veterans will begin a bit in advance of Veterans Day, which is Friday.

The Shelby County Extension Homemakers will have their annual event Sunday to honor all veterans – active, retired, and reserved – all men and women who have ever served the nation.

The event will be held at 2-4 p.m. at the Shelby County Extension Office on Frankfort Road. It will include refreshments and a short ceremony that will begin at 2:30.

“Every year we have a special focus,”  said Sheila Fawbush, the county’s extension agent for family and consumer sciences.” This year it is the Korean Conflict.”

There will be a speaker who will address those who served in Korea.

And the event also will continue a tradition started last year to honor those who are missing in action.

“There are people waiting and hoping and praying,” Fawbush said. “I can’t imagine to have someone taken away and don’t know where they are.”

Darlene Arrington is coordinating the event.

All veterans, their families and friends are invited to attend.
