Tonight's game: SCHS girls at Spencer County

The Shelby County boys' basketball team won its first game of the season last week and tonight the Rockets' girls' team has a good opportunity to win its first game.

Shelby (0-8) plays at Spencer County (1-7) at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

The Bears' lone victory of the season was a 51-39 win at Campbellsville, and they haven't played since Dec. 22 so they may be a little rusty. Spencer County averages 40.3 points per game, while giving up 56.9.

The Rockets, meanwhile, are averaging 28 points per game, while giving up 60.1.

A good start will be key for Shelby, which has had problems with that so far this season. If the Rockets don't get a victory tonight they should have a decent chance at one Feb. 1 when they travel to Eminence.

Injury update

Collins girls' basketball coach Phillip Conder said freshman guard Skylar Clemens will likely be out at least a week with the sprained ankle she suffered last Wednesday against Bishop Brossart in the Max Performance Invitational. So Clemens will definitely miss tomorrow night's Eighth Region showdown at South Oldham.

Conder also said that junior forward Rebecca Mouser is ill today, so he's not sure what her status will be for tomorrow night.
