Several indicted on felony assault charges

Grand jury returns are from both August meetings

Assault charges, which drew significantly in Shelby County in 2012, were the basis for three indictments issued recently by the Shelby County Grand Jury.

Brittany Smith, 23, an inmate at the Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women, was indicted for third-degree assault for allegedly assault a corrections officer at the prison.

According to court records, on June 14, Smith, threw feces, urine, or other bodily fluid, on Sgt. L. Ogletree and Officer L. Johnson at the prison.

The charge, a Class D felony, carries a penalty of 1 to 5 years in prison.
