Saturday round-up

Here's a round-up of some local Saturday sports action:

1. Shelbyville's Brandon Brown is still tied for 10th-place after the third round of the Woodcreek Classic Sponsored by Woodcreek Development, this week's stop on the NGA/Hooters Pro Golf Tour, at 12-under-par (204). Brown, who is six shots off the lead, is set to tee off his final round at 8:51 a.m. Sunday.

2. Shelbyville's Dennis Long shot a 9-under 81 Saturday in the first round of the USGA Senior Amateur Championship. He's tied for 133rd-place.

3. Collins graduate, and Lindsey Wilson College freshman, Branden Cresap (who is listed as "Shannon Cresap" in the statistics) completed 25 of 45 passes for 270 yards and one touchdown as the Blue Raiders rallied from a 25-13 halftime deficit to beat host Southern Virginia University on Saturday afternoon.

4. The Collins boys' cross country team won the E.G. Plummer Invitational on Saturday in Danville. The Titans were led by junior Devon Fielding, who finished eighth overall. Meanwhile on the girls' side, seventh-grader Gabby Karas finished second overall to lead the Titans, who finished fourth in the team standings. Collins was without some team members, who were taking the ACT, and I can only assume that senior Caterina Karas was among those.
