Collins drops fourth straight

By Les Abbott

The Collins baseball team dropped its fourth game in a row, falling 7-0 to Male Tuesday.

The Bulldogs’ offense was in full force and had an early start scoring four runs in the first inning capped off by a single from Matthew Kirkland bringing home James Masden-Jett. Male would tack on two more runs in the second to take a 6-0 lead.

The Titans would hold the Bulldogs scoreless for the next three innings, but for extra insurance, Male would score one last time in the sixth to set the final score.

The Titans’ offense struggled against Male’s Nic Schutte who pitched six innings and allowed only three hits while striking out six.

The Titans used three pitchers in the game against Male, with Stephen Ruddy having the most success.

The junior hurler pitched three scoreless inning and recorded three strikeouts.

Offensively, Tyler White, Will Cline and Drew Goodlett were the lone Titans to register a hit.

Titans head coach Mike Hammond said his team couldn’t get anything to go their way, the entire game was controlled by the Bulldogs.

“Nothing went right,” he said. “We didn’t play with the emotion or tenacity we had played with earlier in year and Male took advantage.”

The Titans look to get back in the win column in their next string of games. They played North Oldham on Thursday, but the results were not available at press time.

The Titans travel to Spencer County to take on the Bears tonight at 6 p.m.
