One lane is closed between Simpsonville and Exit 35

By The Staff

If the snowy and icy roads on Tuesday morning didn’t slow you down, be prepared for a possible full stop tonight – at least on Interstate 64.

The state Transportation Cabinet will close the right lane of I-64 eastbound from 10 p.m. tonight until about 2 a.m. Thursday in the widening zone between Simpsonville and Shelbyville.

This will allow crews working on the project to install new bridge beams over the bridge across Bullskin Creek that were delivered this week.

Access to the Welcome Center at Simpsonville and to Exit 32 in Shelbyville will be closed during this work.

If you want to go to Shelbyville, you will have to continue to Exit 35.

The construction project, which will widen this section of I-64 from four lanes to six lanes, is scheduled for completion in late summer 2014.

The actual starting date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Dial 511 or log on to 511.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the commonwealth of Kentucky.
