Christmas cantata at Finchville
The Finchville Baptist Church’s adult choir will present Our King Has Come today. There will be a fellowship meal at 5 p.m. followed by the cantata at 7 p.m. A dessert time will follow the cantata in fellowship hall. First Baptist Shelbyville events
Singer/evangelist Clyde Kingery will lead Young at Heart and guests in Christmas merriment and song at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Shelbyville. There is a charge of $8 for a catered meal. For more information, contact Daisy Baxter at 633-4836. Two services will be held Sunday, at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Christmas Eve service will be start at 5 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
Elementary story hour at library
An Elementary story hour will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Shelby County Public Library, 309 8th St. in Shelbyville. The theme will be “Christmas.” This is for kindergarten through fourth grade, and Christmas decorations will be made. Visit Santa and swim

Christmas 2013 in songs
Corpus Christi Academy will present Christmas 2013 in songs, chimes and scenes from Little Women and A Christmas Carol beginning at 1 p.m. Friday. This free event is open to all on the campus at 7010 Shelbyville Road in Simpsonville.

Santa Back Woods Parade
Mountain Empire Athletic League will host the seventh annual Christmas Gala with a Santa Claus Back Woods Parade, led by the Kentucky National Guard, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at New Life Baptist Church. The parade starts at the far end of McCormack Road to King Highway, over the rail track to Fairview to Waddy Road to New Life Baptist Church. Travel with Santa Claus in the parade on a bike, trike, hot rod, horses or hop a ride with Santa Claus. Special Christmas gifts will be given from the North Pole, and Mrs. Claus will have her special burgers, hot dogs and drinks for families. For more information, contact Mrs. Claus at 502-682-8946.
First Christian celebrations
The Children’s Christmas play directed by Jane Martin will be presented during the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday at First Christian Church. There will be a New Year’s Eve celebration from 8 p.m. to midnight. The band, Exit Up, will perform. There will be games, activities, favors and more. Burks Branch holiday events
The Burks Branch Baptist Church choir will have a presentation of Majesty of Heaven at 11 a.m. Sunday. Gather at 5:30 p.m. at the church for a candlelight advent service followed by Christmas caroling for shut-ins and the Masonic Home. The church is located at 2023 Fox Run Road.

Southern Lights holiday festival
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Southern Lights holiday festival, returns to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington through Dec. 31. The Southern Lights driving route is open from 5:30 to 10 nightly. The other attractions inside the park will be open every night except Nov. 28 and Dec. 24 through 31. The cost is $15 per passenger car Sunday through Thursday evenings and $20 per passenger car on Friday and Saturday nights. The cost for an extended van or limousine is $30, a mini-bus is $50, a school bus is $75 and a motorcoach is $125. The Southern Lights Stroll on Thursday is the only night the lights can be viewed on foot. A competitive 5K race will be available to families. The cost is $20 for adults and includes a long-sleeved T-shirt for the first 500 registered adults; $15 for children, ages 7 to 12 includes a souvenir holiday item for the first 200 registered children.
