Friday night roundup

Here is a roundup of last night's high school basketball games:


Shelby County 69, Beth Haven 45: The Rockets (4-9) started 2013 with their second straight victory, a 24-point victory over the host Bearcats (6-9).

Senior forward Michael Barry scored a game-high 20 points, 12 in Shelby County's 22-point first quarter. Junior guard Kipp Moore and freshman forward James Gordon tallied 10 points apiece for the Rockets, who led 35-25 at halftime then blew the game open with a 25-point third quarter.

Shelby County goes for its third straight victory (the Rockets haven't won three in a row since the split) at 7:30 p.m. tonight against Thomas Nelson (2-14) at Mike Casey Gymnasium.

Anderson County 55, Collins 43: The host Bearcats (10-1, 1-1) held the Titans (9-4, 1-1) to a season-low point total and 29.5 percent shooting in a 30th District game in Lawrenceburg. Collins also went without a field goal for nearly 13 minutes (from early in the second quarter to late in the third quarter).

Anderson County led by nine at the end of the first quarter (15-6), 11 at halftime (24-13) and 16 (32-16) in the third period before the Titans rallied. They trimmed the Bearcats' lead to seven (32-25) early in the fourth quarter before Anderson County extended its lead to 18.

Junior Ralphie Stone led Collins with 14 while sophomore point guard Brent Kidwell added 13 and Buddy Johnson 10. Dez Marshall, the Titans' leading scorer, finished with just two points. He was 1 of 5 from the field before rolling his ankle late in the third quarter. He played very briefly in the fourth period.

Collins next hosts defending state champion Trinity at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

Bluegrass United 55, Cornerstone Christian 50: The host Bulldogs fell to the visitors.

Nate Oates led Cornerstone with 15 points.


Anderson County 59, Collins 34: The Bearcats (15-1, 2-0) outscored the Titans (6-6, 1-2) 34-23 in the first half and 25-11 in the second half in a 30th District game at Lawrenceburg.

Anderson County forced Collins into 21 turnovers and outrebounded the Titans 28-18, including 12-3 on the offensive end.

Senior forward Aaliyah Wells scored a team-high 20 points for Collins. The Titans play at Woodford County on Tuesday night.
