Five for Saturday afternoon

Here are five things for Saturday afternoon:

1. The high school golf season begins this weekend. There was a big boys' tournament yesterday and today the Shelby County girls' team is playing in the Nelson County Invitational. Look for my previews on the Collins and Shelby teams in the paper beginning next week.

2. Former Shelby County and Western Kentucky basketball standout A.J. Slaughter will continue his career overseas. He announced today on his Twitter account that he will play next season with a team in France.

3. Who else is already annoyed with NBC's coverage of the Olympics? I don't want to read on Twitter that Ryan Lochte beat Michael Phelps...I want to see it live! I know the network does it to boost primetime ratings, but I want to see the action as it happens.

4. Here's one idea to attract viewers to some of the lesser sports, NBC should add more exciting announcers, like the Iron Sheik.

5. Here is a must-see hurdle run! I wish something like this would happen in the Olympics (in the prelims of course).
