EARLIER: The Girls 8th Region Tournament gets under way Monday at Simon Kenton

29th District South Oldham Record: 18-7 overall, 8-3 region History v. SCHS: Shelby won, 50-47, on Dec. 4.

Key players: In the 55-31 district tournament victory against Trimble County Monday, guard Emily Housley was 7-for-7 from the field and led with 14 points.

  Oldham County Record: 13-13 overall, 6-4 region History v. SCHS: Shelby won, 74-57, on Jan. 29.

Key players: Junior guard Erika Hardin had 16 points and nine rebounds in the January loss. Senior forward Emily Lape scored 26 points in Oldham’s 68-50 district tournament win against North Oldham.

  30th District Anderson County Record: 16-8 overall, 6-0 region

History v. SCHS: Anderson won, 61-46, on Dec. 18, the two teams meet again tonight in the district final.

Key players: In the 68-12 victory against Eminence Tuesday, senior guard Kara Yeaste scored 17 points and 8th-grader Mackenzie Cann had 15.

  Shelby County Record: 13-14 overall, 7-3 region

History: Shelby is back in the region tournament after being knocked out last year by Spencer. The Lady Rockets’ 65-38 win against Spencer Wednesday was their fourth in-a-row, the longest streak of the season.

Key players: Seniors Dee Dee Davis and Taylor Shaw will carry the shooting load. In the Spencer win, Davis hit four from 3-point range. Senior Marissa Raisor regularly leads the team in steals. Center Shayla Bolin will be counted on to shut down any opponent in the paint. Sophomore point guard Leeara Cardwell has grown into her role as an offensive catalyst. And freshman forward Aaliyah Wells is capable of posting a double-double any night.

  31st District Owen County Record: 16-9 overall, 13-8 region History v. SCHS: Shelby won, 41-39, on Dec. 21.

Key players: Sophomore guard Rianna Gayheart is one of the top players in the region. She posted 11 points, six rebounds and 5 assist in the December loss. She averages 12 points and four rebounds per game and is a 72 percent free throw shooter.

  Carroll County Record: 14-12 overall, 10-8 region

History v. SCHS: Shelby lost,l 63-60, in overtime on Nov. 30.

Key players: Junior guard Hannah Devine scored 28 points in the November win. Devine had 15 points and 12 rebounds in Carroll’s 51-43 victory against Gallatin County in the district tournament semifinals.

  32nd District Simon Kenton, defending regional champions Record: 19-7 overall, 9-0 region

History v. SCHS: Shelby lost, 47-37, on Jan. 23.

Key players: Kristin Pace led the Lady Pioneers with 15 points and Nikki Brown had 11 rebounds in the January win.

  Walton-Verona Record: 23-4 overall, 17-2 region History v. SCHS: Did not play

Key players: Walton-Verona boasts a top regional players in 5-foot-10 junior forward Kelli Dixon.
