Library teens

The Shelby County Public Library is putting the teen programs on hold because of the new construction. Teens will have a new teen area on the top floor. The tweens will have a new area on the bottom floor. The library is always looking for new Teen Advisory Board (TAB) members. For information, see the children's librarian Sherry Bogard.

Wellness event

Women's Wellness Affair, sponsored by Jewish Hospital Shelbyville and the JHS Volunteer Auxiliary, is 5-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Claudia Sanders Dinner House. Health screenings, community awards and a silent auction are featured. Tickets ($15/each) are available in the hospital's gift shop or from any volunteer, before April 15. Humane Society volunteer training

Political meeting

Multi-Purpose service

Tumble Time

The Family Activity Center of Clear Creek Park is offering Tumble Time for children. Cathy Wilhoit, certified fitness instructor, will lead the classes. There are classes for 2-3 year olds, 4-5 year olds, and 6-8 year olds. Call the FAC office for more information, 633-5059.

Family Yoga Class

A free yoga class is 3-4:15 p.m. Sunday, April 20, suite 106, 211 Breighton Cir. It will be led by Cathy Wilhoite. We provide a free activity for the community every month from classes to informational sessions to appointments with medical professionals to internships for students. Prenatal Yoga is 4-5 Saturdays, led by Dyna Zehnder, certified Doula, birthing coach.

Cropper Ruritan Club

Cropper Ruritan Club is having a fish fry at the firehouse in Cropper 4:30-7 p.m. Saturday, April 26. The menu includes hand-cut, hand-battered codfish with potato wedges, slaw, beans, dessert and drink. Adult plate, $9.; child plate, $6; and fish sandwich, $5. Eat in or carry out. Proceeds benefit community service projects.

Family Activity Center

Open play Pickle Ball is 9-11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Shelby County Family Activity Center. The cost is the daily admission. Line dancing is Friday nights. There is an additional charge. Call the FAC, 633-5059 for information.

Orchestra members needed

Master Gardeners fair

The Shelby County Master Gardener Association will have the 8th annual Shelbyville County Garden and Art Fair 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Shelby County Fairgrounds. Hundreds of perennial plants from members' gardens will be offered for sale. Kentucky horticultural organizations will be on site. Music and food accompany the event. Student contest

The Optimist Club of Shelby County is sponsoring an oratorical contest for students under the age of 16 as of Dec. 31, 2007. The contest, "Why me? Why not?" is 6:30 p.m. April 22, at the Stratton Center. Winners will receive awards and possibly an opportunity to win college scholarships. Kids Korner

Centenary United Methodist Church has Kids Korner 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, April 19. The program is for K-fifth graders who are on the free/reduced meals program. There is a 9:30 a.m./12:15 p.m. pick-up/return in front of the red barn in Marshall's Mobile Home Park and a 9:45 a.m./12:30 p.m. pick-up/return in front of St. John's United Methodist Church in the Martinsville community. Cell phones collected

Cell Phones for Soldiers and the Shelby County Public Library are collecting used cell phones to help keep troops connected with their families. Phones may be donated at the Shelby County Public Library, 309 8th St.

ALC Pregnancy Resource Center

The center offers free pregnancy testing, confidential peer counseling, and information on all choices in an unplanned pregnancy, baby and maternity clothing and equipment, parenting and cooking classes and referrals to local resources. All our services are free and open to anyone. Center hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays, 2-6 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays. No appointment is necessary. Volunteer opportunity

To volunteer at animal adoption centers, Humane Society or Shelby County Animal Shelter, call 633-4033. New Humane Society hours of operation are Monday, 1-5 p.m.; Tuesday, clinic day (low-cost spay/neuter) by appointment; Wednesday, 1-5 p.m.; Thursday, 1-5 p.m.; Friday, 1-5 p.m.; and by appointment. Spay/neuter assistance

LifeBridge for Animals will provide spay and neuters for all pets adopted from the Shelby County Animal Shelter when the voucher received at the adoption is redeemed through a participating LifeBridge veterinarian. Call 633-4959 for information.
