Collins football playoff glance

Here are the football playoff pairings for Collins when the Class 4A postseason begins Nov. 4. As long as they win the Titans will have "home field" advantage (at Shelby County's Robert Doyle Stadium) throughout the first three rounds.

No. 4 Moore (2-2, 4-5) vs. No. 1 Collins (4-0, 7-2) at SCHS

No. 3 Spencer County (2-2, 3-6) at No. 2 Doss (2-2, 2-7)

No. 3 Valley (2-2, 3-6) at No. 2 North Oldham (3-1, 8-1)

No. 4 Waggener (1-3, 2-7) at No. 1 Western (3-1, 5-4)

The Titans get Moore in the first round. The Mustangs were the only District 4 team to beat champ Western, 14-13 back on Sept. 23. Moore features Mekale McKay, a two-sport standout, who has committed to play football for UTEP, but will also play basketball there for Tim Floyd. Moore is coming off a 41-14 victory over Waggener, which Collins beat 58-3 on Oct. 14.

If the Titans win their first-round game they might get Doss in the second round. The Dragons only have two wins this season, but both were in the district. Their pre-district schedule, however, featured games against St. Xavier, Butler and Pleasure Ridge Park. Doss loss its first two games by three points - a 9-6 overtime loss to Bullitt East and a 23-20 setback to Seneca. The Dragons, who are coached by LaKunta Farmer (who played for Bob Redman at Male), lost the de facto district championship game to Western 18-12 in four overtimes this past Friday night.

If the Titans win their second-round game they could get a rematch of last year's region title game against Western (which the Warriors won 31-26), or a rematch against North Oldham, whom Collins beat 24-22 Oct. 7 at SCHS in one of the regular-season's best games.

*NOTE: Shelby County is in a three-way tie for second-place in its district and the Rockets' playoff pairings won't be decided until the end of the regular season.
