Burks Branch Baptist

The Haiti Youth Mission Team will host a Beach Night on April 14 at the church. Spring revival services will be April 28 through May 1 with Eric Allen, Missions Mobilization Team Leader at the Kentucky Baptist Convention. The church is collecting items for the Touched Twice Clinic to be held on April 13. A donation box is located at the back door of the church. Centenary United Methodist

The congregation will participate with seven other Methodist churches in the county, in the Impact Shelby event from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. This event includes work projects, building ramps, yard work, written notes, visits to shut-ins, prayer and food teams. Fifth Sunday offering will be received on Sunday. There will be no Fellowship dinner or Bible programming Wednesday because of spring break. The church office will be closed on Good Friday.

Finchville Baptist

Youth camp will be July 15-19 at The University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg. Sunday is the signup deadline, and a $75 deposit is required by April 7. An offering for North American Missions in support of their Whatever It Takes program will be taken. This is the annual Annie Armstrong Offering, which supports all mission efforts in North America. Offering envelopes are in the pew racks. A prayer guide will follow next week. Help reach the goal of $1,750. Members of the missions committee will serve dinner at A Loving Choice on Thursday. Members should meet at ALC at 5:30 p.m.; dinner will be served at 6:30. A yard sale will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 19-20 in the church parking lot on KY 55. First Baptist Shelbyville

First Christian

The Youth Group will not meet Sunday and April 6 because of spring break. Youth Group will resume at 5 p.m. on April 13. All youth in grades 6-12 are welcome to attend. The CWF meets at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Bring a sandwich and enjoy a time of study, worship and fellowship. The blessing boxes are due at the April meeting. FCC will prepare the meal for God's Kitchen on Thursday. The church is a collection site for Edge Outreach Shoes for Water. Donations of new, and used shoes to Edge Outreach create clean drinking water for people in need. Shoes of all types are acceptable – from flip-flops to high heels, from boots to football cleats. FCC is also collecting used hearing-aid batteries, coupons – current or expired, cancelled postage stamps, pop tops from aluminum cans and current magazines for mission projects. Kroger gift cards may be purchased from the church. Each time a card is purchased or reloaded, the church earns 4 percent. Contact the church office for more information. The prayer chapel is open during normal office hours at 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday for anyone seeking a quiet place to pray. First Presbyterian

Cub Scouts meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Boy Scouts at 7 p.m. Presbyterian Women gather at 10 a.m. Wednesday; adult choir rehearsal is at 7:15 p.m. The property committee and garden ministry are joining forces to host a spring cleaning for the church on April 21, following worship. Come dressed in your work duds or bring a change of clothes, pack a lunch (drinks will be provided) and don't forget your garden gloves. Cleaning supplies will be provided. If you have garden tools, bring them. Alternative gift market dinner and concert, a free event open to the community, will be at 4:30 p.m. April 28. Come enjoy the music of a local jazz/studio band formed to honor the memory of Ernie Threlkeld, Susie Saunders and Mel Owens. Following their "Big Band Sounds" will be a potluck dinner and baked potato bar. Bring a salad or dessert to share if you can. The Mitten Tree is filled with donations of hats, mittens, scarves, socks, etc. Anyone needing these items or knowing someone who needs them should help themselves. A congregation-wide, inter-generational mission trip to Eastern Kentucky is being planned for this summer. Anyone interested in going should contact Mark Whittaker. Complete the Disaster Preparedness/Response Survey and the Internet/Facebook questionnaires, both included in the March issue of The First Word, and return them to the church office. These will help us be able to contact folks in the case of an emergency. If you did not receive a First Word, blank forms are available at the church. The Backpack Project is in desperate need of donations. Monetary donations can be made out to Shelby County Backpack Project, P.O. Box 117, Shelbyville, 40066. Items needed are: soup or Chef Boyardee, Vienna sausage, individual fruit cups, Pop Tarts, individual cereals, cereal bars, peanut butter and crackers, Granola bars, Rice Krispie treats, individual apple sauce cups, juice boxes, Capri Sun, water bottles and fruit snacks. Everything needs to be packaged individually. Place these items in the Love Sunday baskets.

This is a free, 1-day clinic for all of Shelby County, striving to meet medical, spiritual and physical needs of people who are not otherwise able to receive these services.

St. James Episcopal
