Burks Branch Baptist

The choir has started rehearsing their Easter Musical – See what a Morning! Rehearsals are 7 p.m. Wednesday. The cantata will be performed during the 11 a.m. morning worship service on March 29. The church will also host the Fifth Sunday singing service at 6 p.m. Services for Sunday will begin at 9:50 a.m. with Sunday school, followed by worship service at 11. Fundraising for the Annie Armstrong Easter offering will take place through Easter. The goal this year is $2,015. A bake sale will be during the Good Friday services with proceeds going towards the mission offering. The church will send a team of 15 to Calebasse, Haiti, on July 11-18. Calebasse is in the mountains. The approximate cost for the trip is $1,600. Reserve your spot with a deposit of $125 as soon as possible. If you are not planning on going to Haiti, you can still be a part of the experience. Register your Kroger card with our NPO: 12461. You will not only be helping our Mission Involvement Fund, but you'll be helping to fund the Haiti trip. It is so easy to do and such a beneficial thing. Catholic Church of Annunciation

We only have three more RCIA sessions until Easter when we have 11 people entering, becoming full members of the Catholic Church here at our Annunciation parish. In our diocese we will have 527 people to enter the Catholic Church. This week’s session will be on the "Beatitudes," which means ultimate "happiness". The "Beatitudes" are among Jesus' most fundamental teachings, describing the attitudes and rewards of the blessed. Those who try to find happiness in the pursuit of pleasure, power, wealth, or social standing are often disappointed, but those who practice the Beatitudes find that they lead to beatitude, that is, ultimate and lasting happiness. We meet at 6 p.m. in the Education Building on Sundays and it is open to all. The pastor is Father Mike Tobin. Call the parish office at 633-1547.

 

Centenary United Methodist

The CYF fifth grade girls taking part in the mentoring retreat at Asbury University on Saturday will meet at the church at 9:30 a.m. They will return on Sunday around noon. The Fourth Sunday of Lent message will be "It's Really a Matter of Focus" from Matthew 6th chapter. A special offering, One Great Hour of Sharing, will be received at both services on Sunday. The Worship Planning meeting will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday and the Church Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. April Newsletter articles are due on Wednesday and regular Wednesday evening programming will begin at 5:45 p.m. Membership Care meeting will be 10 a.m. Thursday and the New Circle meeting at 7 p.m. Fourteen CYF youth and five adult chaperones will participate in a Youth Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic this summer. They will have bible school, home activities and personal witness times.

A prayer group will meet each Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. in the chaplain's office. Everyone is welcome to participate. The Stations of the Cross is a self guided Lenten journey to the cross through scripture, prayer, meditation, music and art. (FYI: the new carpet will closely match the green of the current carpet.) Help is still needed to prepare for the 2015 Painted Stone Elementary Young at Art Night. Anyone wishing to help prep materials for the stations is welcome any day, any time. Take home jobs available. Check in at the front office and go to the Art Room. These are simple jobs like sorting, counting, cutting, and filing. The Serenity Center (located in the former firehouse on Seventh Street) is looking for teams of volunteers from area churches to help with food distribution on Wednesdays. We are looking to put together a couple of teams of six to eight who would help from 8:30 to 4 p.m. one Wednesday a month (however individual volunteers could work only 1 or 2 hours, whatever suits your available time.) Something for all abilities and ages, from unloading the food truck to organizing baked goods, to helping folks choose items. Standup and sit down tasks available. Anyone interested should speak with Lynn Whittaker. Food is available to all Shelby County residents, regardless of income. Take proof of residence/ID and bring your own box or bag. Food is distributed at 10 a.m. every Wednesday.
