Parents will gather to share their children with members of our congregation and then head out for some fellowship and an early night on the town. However, the evening for our youngsters will be anything but a repeat performance. Their evening will more resemble “Downton Abbey for Kids.” All children from diapers through middle school are invited to Kate Bemiss’ yellow house at 934 Main St. in Shelbyville to experience a little Manners 101. We ask that all children who attend please dress for the occasion and come ready to show what manners they have and ready to learn a few new ones as well. “Miss Martha” will direct our children in what is likely to be their first exposure to dinner forks, salad forks and dessert forks. Volunteers are needed to help prepare the food, place cards, centerpieces and more. To share your talents for this event, add your name to the list of volunteers in the Assembly Room. See Libby Pollett, Lynn Whittaker or Martha Flood for more details. Young Adults, RSVP to Sally Zaring for your evening out on the town, heading to Hometown Pizza after dropping off the kids at 5:30 p.m. Having children is not a requirement to participate or is being a church member. Invite your friends. Just be sure to tell Sally, so we can save them a seat. Anyone interested in going to Morehead State University's Build-A-Bed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 26 should contact Lynn Whittaker by the end of February to register. Build-A-Bed targets a very specific and often-neglected community, the working poor. Many Kentucky children are living in homes with not enough beds or none at all. The mission of the Morehead Build-A-Bed project is to ensure that 75 children are guaranteed a proper place to sleep in their homes. Along with a handmade twin bed and mattress, each child gets a bedtime bag that includes a sheet set, comforter/quilt, a book, alarm clock or night light, stuffed animal and a hygiene kit.
