There's a lot of uncertainty about the future of the "Cash for Clunkers" program, but local car dealers say one thing is for certain: The program has helped get people into showrooms and buying cars in Shelby County.

Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS), better known as "Cash for Clunkers," allows people to turn in their inefficient vehicles for new, more fuel efficient ones with a $3,500 or $4,500 discount. The government then reimburses the dealer for the discount.
