Magistrates vote down provision for their own raise

By Glen Jennings

Shelby County Fiscal Court approved a first reading of its 2019-2020 budget, but narrowly voted down a provision that would give magistrates a raise.

The total budget for fiscal court in the coming year is planned at $23,645,475.62, with about $3.2 million budgeted for the road department, $3.5 for EMS, a $505,000 contribution to the parks department and $247,000 for animal control.

Judge-Executive Dan Ison also called specific attention to the increase in pension costs in the new budget.
