An investigation into a body discovered this morning in the parking lot of Rite Aid in Shelbyville has ruled the death a suicide.

Shelby County Chief Deputy Coroner Jeff Ivers said that Anderson Kennedy, 41, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Ivers said that Kennedy, who was disabled, left behind a note. He said he has not determined the time of death, but Shelbyville Police Chief Danny Goodwin said that at 8:05 a.m. police got a call from someone who said he had seen a body lying in the parking lot of the store at 1605 Midland Trail.

Goodwin said the passerby went into the store to tell the manager, who called police.

Ivers said that Kennedy was found behind the store, lying about 30 feet from his car. Ivers said he could not speculate on why Kennedy chose that location, except maybe that the store was close to his residence and offered a small measure of privacy.

Kennedy was taken to Webb Funeral Home.
