Cook's quick take on the week

Here's my quick take on a handful of things from this week:

Cook's quick take on the week

Here is my quick take on the week in sports action so far:

Saturday wrap-up

Here is a wrap-up of Saturday for local readers:

1. Shelbyville's Brandon Brown shot a 2-under-par in today's third round of the Nationwide Tour's Stadion Classic at UGA in Athens, Ga. and is tied for 8th-place overall at 10-under-par (203=65-69-69). South Africa's Tyrone Van Aswegen at 13-under. Brown who is in line for his biggest pro golf payday will tee off at 11:35 a.m. Sunday.

My 8th Region baseball/softball rankings

During basketball season I ranked my top five boys’ and girls’ teams in the 8th Region on a weekly basis, so now I’m going to try my hand at baseball and softball during the spring. Here is the first installment of rankings.

Baseball

Wednesday morning 5

Here are five for Wednesday morning:

1. I didn't get to Tweet about it last night, but the Shelby County baseball team held its own against defending state champ Central Hardin on Tuesday night, falling 5-1.

2. The other big news of the night was the firing of Bobby Petrino. I hate to laugh at another man's misfortune, but when you bring it on yourself it's okay, so ha, ha, ha.

End of the night 3

Here's an end-of-the-night blog for Thursday:

1. The Collins and Shelby County baseball teams both lost close games tonight. The Titans were topped by visiting Butler 7-5, while the Rockets were edged by Madison (Wisc.) LaFollette 2-1.

Five quick thoughts from New Orleans

Here are five quick thoughts on my time and/or experiences in New Orleans for the Final Four so far:
1. Man it's hot! I'm talking high 80-degree temperatures. I know it's been unseasonably warm back at home, but this is even worse.
2. Best T-shirt I've seen on Bourbon Street: "Free Sean Payton."
3. Tough loss last night for Louisville, but with the Cards returning core I wouldn't be surprised to see them in Atlanta next year.
4. Wow did Ohio State blow its game against Kansas! And Aaron Craft's lane violation in the final seconds, what was he thinking?!

First Four for Tuesday

Here are my first four for Tuesday:

1. Only four more days...until the Ohio State-Kansas game in the Final Four! I know this area is pumped up for that game.

2. Did you see one of last season's star players from UK, Brandon Knight, give himself an unintentional Gatorade bath?

Five for Monday morning

Here are five for early Monday morning of what will be the longest week of work, or school, you've ever had:

1. Are you, or anyone you know heading to New Orleans for the Final Four? If so Tweet me or e-mail me at jcook@sentinelnews.com.

2. Any argument that Saturday's game between UK and UofL is the biggest sporting event in the history of the state? Bigger than the Kentucky Derby? The original Dream Game? Tiger winning the PGA at Valhalla in 2000? The U.S. winning the Ryder Cup there in 2008?

Saturday night five

I know there was one big basketball game today, there's another one tomorrow, and the possibility of an even bigger one next Saturday, but first things first. I wasn't able to blog yesterday so I'm going to first touch on something I wasn't able to Friday.
