  • EARLIER; After big hit, Axline...

No sense taking it easy after returning from a concussion.

Shelby County’s Ben Axline was back in the lineup last week against Seneca after missing the North Hardin game. All he did was lead the Rockets with seven catches for 139 yards, score two TDs and deliver the two biggest hits of the game.

In fact, Axline, a junior, has been involved with the three biggest hits this season.

  • Golf: Rockets close out match...

The SCHS boys’ golf team battled Collegiate and the rain Tuesday in the team’s final match of the regular season, and the Rockets got the better of both.

Shelby hammered Collegiate, 150-215, setting the mark for the team’s best match score of the year.

Josh Griffin led the Rockets again, this time shooting an even-par 36. Behind him were a tightly grouped set of Tayler Adams 37, Turner Mayton 38 and Jared Redmon 39. It was the first time this year the Rockets’ finished a match with all four players in the 30s.

  • Boys soccer: Rain postpones...

Shelby County still is waiting to play its first match in Bulldog Classic in Louisville.

Rain postponed the first two games, and now Coach B.J. Andriot says the team is hopeful of playing Christian Academy Louisville tonight at 6 at the St. Xavier field. “It’s a turf field, so I think we’ll play,” he said.

  • Lady Rockets look for region...

The SCHS girls’ golf team has been back and forth with Sacred Heart all season, and the two will go out at it one more time on Monday at Midland Trail Golf Course in Eastwood.

.“I think the team is ready,” SCHS Coach Anna Simpson said. “Everyone, except Lilly Young, has been in this position before and knows what it takes to do well.”

The girls won their first region title last season, and backing it up will be a tough task.

  • Griffin to help lead CKC in...

After the SCHS boys’ golf team compiled a sensational, 7-1 mark in conference match play, it should come as no surprise that the Rockets’ No.1 golfer will help represent the Central Kentucky Conference in the first Challenge Cup, a Ryder Cup-format dual with the Kentucky Bluegrass Conference.

The event starts Thursday in Danville.

SCHS junior Josh Griffin will be the No. 2 player for his conference after finishing the conference season with the second-most points.
