  • Clarkson tabbed for All-State...

Shelby County baseball player Jared Clarkson finally ended his high school career.

Clarkson played in the East vs. West All-Star Game this past weekend and then topped that by being named First Team All-state by the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association.

"I wasn't expecting that at all," Clarkson said.

However, maybe he swayed a few votes during the game when he took Luke Maile, Kentucky's Mr. Baseball and a University of Kentucky signee, yard.

  • Brown misses cut at Nationwide...

Shelby County native Brandon Brown fired a 72-74 - 146 in this first two rounds of the Nationwide Tour Players Cup at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W.Va., on Thursday and Friday.

His 2-over-par put him on the outside looking in for the weekend: The 36-hole was set at 1-under (143).

Tom Gillis shot a 15-under 273 to win his first Nationwide event this year.

  • Post 37's 10-run inning...

A comfortable lead turned into a blowout victory Tuesday for Shelbyville American Legion Post 37.

Ahead, 8-3, Shelbyville scored 10 runs in the ninth to drill Floyds Knobs, Ind., 18-3.

Jared Clarkson led the inning off with a first-pitch home run, and two batters later Justin McCarty ripped a two-run homer. The two would match that feat again later in the inning, when Clarkson ripped a three-run shot, and McCarty followed with another two-run dinger.

Clarkson had three home runs in the game, capping a 5-for-6 night.

  • Former SCHS star in Fast Pitch...

Jamie Robinson Roby had the fast-pitch stats: a sub 1.0 earned-run average, a batting average over .450 and two regional titles. But the Hall of Fame was the one hold out.

    Not any more.

Roby was inducted in the Fast Pitch Hall of Fame on June 13, an honor long overdue. Playing slow-pitch for Shelby County as a seventh-grader, Roby was an integral part in Shelby County’s first fast-pitch team in 1995, and she graduated in 1997. She’s the first player from SCHS and from the 8th Region to be inducted.

  • Anderson holds off Rockets in...

The SCHS baseball team got behind early and couldn’t get past Anderson County (26-10), falling, 8-5, Wednesday in the 8th Region Championship game at the Shelby County Athletic Complex.

The Rockets (19-13) tried to rally in the seventh.

  • Let Simba relieve your stress

    Strategy – nah.

    Motivational speech – not necessary.

    Settle nerves – not really.

No, the Lady Rockets and their coaches weren’t focused on any of those things before Wednesday’s 8th Region championship game.

No, instead they were chatting about Simba, the circle of life and the songs “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “Hakuna Matata.”

Yep, the movie “The Lion King” was the main topic of conversation.

  • Lady Rockets take 8th Region...

Oldham County had cut the Lady Rockets' lead to 6-2 in the top of the seventh inning of the 8th Region final Wednesday night and had a runner on third when senior pitcher Haleigh LeCompte gathered the infielders around her.

"They got a couple of hits and scored, and I just told them, 'OK, seriously, we need to buckle down and get these outs,’" she said.
