  • Whitehouse takes 3rd in 400

    The Shelby County boys’ track and field team finished ninth overall at the KHSAA State Track and Field Meet on Saturday.

    Led by Stacey Eden’s championship in the 3,200 and Tyler Whitehouse’s third-place finish in the 400, the Rockets scored 26 points.

    “Coming in ninth in the state at the end of the year, I was very pleased,” SCHS boys coach George Cottrell said. “I had a feeling at the beginning of the year that we could be at this level.”

    The SCHS girls' softball team continued its hot streak, beating South Oldham 7-0 in its 8th Region Tournament opener Monday at the SCHS Athletic Complex.

    The Lady Rockets now have won three in a row by an average of seven runs.

    "The girls came out pumped up," SCHS Coach Kelly Cable said. "We talked about carrying that emotion over from [winning the 30th District] last week, and, honestly, I think they just came out ready to play."

  • Region tourney gets under way...

    Having lost four of its last six games, the SCHS baseball team is limping a little into the 8th Region Tournament.

    But Coach Bart Roettger feels good about his team’s chances.

    ""I still like our team, and I like our chances against any team in the 8th Region," he said. “If I didn’t feel that way, I’d be in the wrong business.”

  • EARLIER: Rockets rip Grant, 15-5

    A two-run home run from Jared Clarkson got the Rockets started in the top of the first, and Clarkson's RBI double in the top of the sixth effectively ended it Monday.

    That final run put Shelby (18-12) on top of Grant County (10-16) 15-5, and Ben Glassner closed the game by striking out the side for the Rockets in the first round of the 8th Region Tournament at the SCHS Athletic Complex.

  • Eden takes state title in 3,200

    Since his sophomore year, Stacey Eden has been gunning for a state title.

    “I think, legitimately, I’ve had a shot at winning state since cross country my sophomore year,” he said.

    Now, as a junior, Eden can add a title in the 3,200-meter race to long list of top five and top 10 finishes. Eden took the title at the State Track and Field Meet at the University of Louisville on Saturday.
