    BOWLING GREEN – They overcame the weather, the pressure and even a rare two-stroke penalty, and today the Shelby County Lady Rockets can celebrate a third-place finish in the KHSAA Girls Golf Tournament.

    The Lady Rockets rallied from a poor first round to improve their scores by 22 strokes during a darkness-delayed second round at Bowling Green Country Club and at one point shared the lead Sunday morning before coming up short of their first state championship.

    BOWLING GREEN - The Lady Rockets finished third in the KHSAA Girls Golf Tournament at Bowling Green Country Club on Sunday.

    SCHS gave winner Green County and runner-up Sacred Heart a run for the title throughout the round, shaving 22 strokes as a team from their first-round score.

    Green County won with a two-day low 689. Sacred Heart shot 695, and SCHS shot 702.

    "We still didn't play the last four holes as well," coach Anna Simpson said, attributing the turnaround to sunny, mild weather and less nervousness.

    The SCHS boys’ soccer team needed to beat North Oldham on Thursday to earn the No. 2 seeding in the 16th District Tournament, which starts next week.

    The Rockets (8-3-5, 2-0-2 in the district), did more than just win at North Oldham; they sent a message by dominating the Mustangs (6-10-1, 1-3), 4-0.

    Scoring a combined eight goals in their last two games, the Rockets seem to have figured out their scoring issues.
