  • Lady Rockets drill Spencer 12-2

    The Shelby County Lady Rockets came out hot in a 12-2 win over Spencer County Tuesday. The girls had five hits and scored seven runs in the first two innings, giving pitcher Kristina Gramig a comfortable lead to pitch with.

    Hannah Stucker got things started in the first with an RBI triple, Hannah Abbott followed with an RBI single and Farren Holland capped the inning with a two-run single. In the second, Stucker picked up her second straight triple, as she, Dee Dee Davis and Jessica Williams all scored.

  • Rockets whip Gallatin 10-0 in...

    Nolan Mills put the Rockets on his back in the field, and Shelby County came up with some big hits to forget a three-game slide with a 10-0 five-inning win over Gallatin County Monday.

    Mills threw a perfect game through the run-rule-shortened contest, something head coach Bart Roettger said is a major feat.

  • Lady Rockets grab big region win...

    Both Shelby and Oldham counties' softball teams were fresh off the Sports Warehouse Classic over the weekend. The Lady Rockets fell to host Owensboro Catholic in the quarterfinals; Oldham also lost to Owensboro Catholic in the finals.

    However, Shelby showed the Lady Colonels a thing or two about bouncing back. The Lady Rockets won 7-2 at Oldham County Monday.

  • Rockets roll off three straight

    The SCHS baseball team bounced back from a tough loss to Butler on Monday to score a win over Woodford County Tuesday and sweep a doubleheader against Calloway County Wednesday.

    "I told the guys before the Woodford County game Tuesday that the true test is how they come back after a loss," SCHS head coach Bart Roettger said. "That's how you show how good you are, you battle back. I think it shows how much leadership and determination this team has."

    Jordan Burk picked up the win over Woodford County.

  • Lady Rockets face loaded field...

    The Shelby County High School softball team will begin play in the very difficult Owensboro Catholic Sports Warehouse Classic today.

    The girls are guaranteed five games in the tournament, but making the championship will be difficult.

    "There's great competition throughout the whole tournament," SCHS head coach Kelly Cable said. "There's a lot of ranked teams, and our pool is just loaded."

  • Rockets falter against Butler

    The SCHS baseball team had an up-and-down run at the Southern Invitational.

    The boys hammered host Southern 12-6 Saturday.

    "We played really well and came out and hit the ball," SCHS head coach Bart Roettger said. "I thought we came out strong and aggressive and ready to play."

    The Rockets tallied a season-high 12 hits in that win.

    However, Monday's final game in the invitational wasn't nearly as sweet. The Rockets fell 14-1 to Butler behind eight errors.

  • Rockets take second at home meet

    Despite a rash of injuries that have hampered several of the team's top events, the Shelby County boys' track team finished second at the 11-team All-comers meet Tuesday.

    Trinity took the top spot, but Shelby County was well ahead of third place Ballard, topping the Bruins by 21 points.

    "I thought the meet went OK," head coach Jerry Lucas said. "We are still trying to recover from injuries."

    The Shelby County girls' softball team hammered out 13 hits in just 3 innings to whip visiting Eminence 16-0 in a run-rule shortened game Tuesday.

  • Rockets split two in Tri-State...

    The Shelby County High School baseball team sputtered and rallied in two games Saturday during the Tri-State Kickoff Classic at the SCHS athletic complex.

    The Rockets sputtered against Lancaster, Ohio in first game, being no-hit in a 4-0 loss.

  • Lady Rockets take third at...

    The SCHS softball team went 3-1 at the Ballard Invitational Tournament over the weekend to finish in third place.

    The girls finished pool play 3-0 with wins over Fern Creek, Anderson County and Butler, but fell to Anderson in the semifinals to finish in third.

    In the opener, the Lady Rockets drilled Fern Creek 11-0 in four innings. Shelby pounded out 10 hits, including three from Jessica Williams and two from Haleigh LeCompte, and seven different players recorded RBIs.

    LeCompte scattered four hits and recorded two strikeouts to get the win for the Lady Rockets.
