  • Lady Rockets fall in overtime to...

    The Lady Rockets lost 65-60 in overtime to Anderson County in the 30th District Championship Friday.

    With 20 seconds remaining in overtime, the Lady Bearcats took the lead when Makenzie Cann drove in for a layup. The Lady Rockets pushed the ball down the floor looking for a shot opportunity. Anderson got a piece of Taylor Shaw's jumper, but Dee Dee Davis came  up with the loose ball and fed it to Marissa Raisor at the low post. Raisor was open and hit the shot, but Lady Rocket Coach Phillip Conder finally got the timeout he was calling for.

    The Rockets advanced to the 30th District Championship game with a solid 72-40 win against visiting Eminence Tuesday.

    Shelby County built a 42-13 halftime lead, turning Warrior turnovers into 25 points and shooting 50 percent from the field.

    Rocket Donovan Johnson posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Four more Rockets were in double figures: Darryl Hicks (13), Eric Standafer (12), Boomer Beckley (11) and Cache Tomlinson (11). Dre Banta led the Warriors with 14 points.

    The Lady Rockets advanced to the 30th District Championship game with a 65-38 win against Spencer County Wednesday night.

    Trailing 17-9 after the first quarter, the Lady Bears cut Shelby's lead to five in the second quarter with a Sydney Spencer three. But Lady Rockets Dee Dee Davis and Taylor Shaw hit back-to-back threes to regain the momentum and take a 29-15 halftime lead.

  • Rockets fall 63-62 at St. Xavier

    LOUISVILLE -- St. Xavier edged Shelby County 63-62 Friday, the Rockets' first loss since Jan. 12, nine games ago.

    Shelby led through the first quarter, then piled on turnovers in the second quarter, as St. Xavier brought the game to a tie at 28 going into halftime. The Rockets and Tigers traded turnovers in the third quarter. Cache Tomlinson hit a three to put Shelby up 41-36, their largest lead since the first quarter.

    But the Tigers answered with a 8-0 run to close the third quarter with a 44-41 lead.

  • Lady Rockets trump Frankfort 64-...

    The Lady Rockets finished their regular season with a 64-31 win against visiting Frankfort (10-17) Thursday. It was also a sentimental evening as four players -- Hannah Stucker, Marissa Raisor, Dee Dee Davis and Taylor Shaw -- were honored for senior night.

    Shelby County (12-14) never trailed in the game, which began with two 3-pointers from Davis and one by Leeara Cardwell before the Lady Panthers hit a bucket. Davis finished with five 3s.

    The Rockets secured the top seed in the upcoming district tournament by defeating Spencer County 87-49 at home Thursday.

    Shelby jumped out to a 23-10 lead after the first quarter with a balance attack on the Bears' 2-3 zone defense. Boomer Beckley scored 13 points in the first half, including a 3-pointer banked in from half court at the buzzer to give Shelby a 49-25 lead going into halftime.
