  • Robinson’s 2 assists lead steady...

Sarah Robinson had an uneasy feeling in her stomach Monday evening.

“I had the butterflies bad,” the Collins senior said. “I’ve never had the pre-game jitters.”

But Robinson had never played a girls’ soccer match against Shelby County. However the Titans forward, who missed the team’s inaugural season in 2010 with a knee injury, made up for lost time.

  • Collins clobbers Mercer County...

The Collins football team erased any lingering effects, or doubts, from last week’s loss to Meade County on Saturday evening.

That’s when Collins mauled Mercer County 56-13, in a game that never lived up to being a clash of the Titans, in the Stuart Powell Bowl at Boyle County.

Senior running back Darian Dugle ran for two touchdowns, while senior Michael Brooks rushed for one TD and passed for another for Collins, which scored the first 28 points of the game and never looked back.

  • Rockets fall 27-24 at LaRue...

Fumbles and flags did in the Shelby County football team in its season-opener Friday night.

The Rockets were plagued by both, but still hung tough before falling to host LaRue County 27-24 Friday night in Hodgenville.

  • Harover returns for SCHS

For the first time all season the Shelby County girls’ golf team will be at full strength Saturday.

Rockets senior Shannon Harover, the team’s No. 2 player the past two years, will make her 2011 debut in the Bullitt East Invitational, which begins at 7:30 a.m. at Heritage Hill Golf Club in Shepherdsville.

Harover has missed the first few weeks of the season because of a kneecap injury.

  • First up, Rockets will try to...

Todd Shipley’s No. 1 goal for tonight is to stop LaRue County’s No. 1 one option.

Hawks senior fullback Drew Newberry rushed 22 times for 129 yards and his team’s only touchdown in LaRue’s season-opening, 26-7 loss to North Bullitt last Saturday.

“He makes the engine go on offense,” Shipley, the Shelby County football coach, said.

  • They’re off and running toward...

The high school cross-country season kicks off with Saturday’s Tiger Run at Old River Road Country Club in Louisville, and some county teams, and individuals, could have some big seasons.

Here is a quick look at the squads from both schools:

    SHELBY COUNTY

    GIRLS

New Shelby County cross-country coach Andrew Danner takes over a girls’ team that has high hopes for 2011.

    For good reason.

  • SCHS boys win 1st soccer match

The Shelby County boys’ soccer team won its first match of the season Tuesday night, clobbering Carroll County, 8-4, at the Shelby County Athletic Complex.

Sophomore striker Raul Lopez had two goals and an assist for Shelby County, which was coming off a 2-2 tie at Louisville Butler on Monday.

  • Rebounding teams expect Titanic...

Saturday night will be a clash of the Titans.

But the same nickname might not be the only thing that Collins and Mercer County, who’ll meet at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Stuart Powell Bowl at Boyle County, have in common.

  • Titans need only 2 sets to win...

This Collins volleyball team has already accomplished something last year’s squad never did.

The Titans have swept rival Shelby County in two sets.

Collins topped the host Rockets, 25-15, 25-15, Tuesday evening at Mike Casey Gymnasium. The Titans won all three meetings last season – including the 30th District final – during their inaugural 22-3 campaign, but all three victories came in three sets.
