Only a few more days to go until Shelby’s 151st county fair opens with a roar – and a moo – on Thursday as the dairy show kicks things off. But there will be plenty of attractions for all, including a tractor pull, carnival rides and pageants.

And it only gets better from there, with the usual yummy treats, music, and so many events and attractions it would next to impossible to get bored.

Animal lovers will be in their element, with plenty of shows for goats, horses, sheep and hogs and even a cow and calf contest contest.

Brandon Brown failed to make the cut at the U.S. Open.

The professional golfer from Shelbyville shot a 12-over-par 152 in the first two rounds of the tournament being held at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Penn.

Brown, making his first appearance in one of golf’s four “majors,” missed the cut for the final two rounds by four shots.

In an hour-long hearing in the Kentucky Supreme Court on Friday, attorneys argued and answered about Shelbyville attorney Mark Dean’s claim that Commonwealth Bank & Trust should have alerted him his secretary was moving large amounts of money among accounts by using counter checks.

All seven justices were present to hear Larry Zielke, Dean’s attorney, and John McGarvey for the bank attack and defend a ruling by Shelby County Circuit Judge Charles Hickman that Dean should have paid more attention to his accounts.

"Shushhhh" was not the usual watchword Saturday at the Shelby County Public Library. It was more like, "Let's scream for ice cream!" as the strains of live Bluegrass music and the laughter of hundreds of children and adults ate ice cream, played games and listened to the band Cottonwood in the Hudson Room.

The event kicked off the Shelby County Public Library's annual Summer Reading Program, with a possible record attendance this year.
