Teen girl drowns in Clear Creek

A teenager who was last seen planning a night of fun at the Shelby County Fair was found facedown in a creek Monday morning by a railroad employee.

Family members of Jackleen Lane, 15, of Bagdad told WAVE-Ch. 3 that when the teen told her brother, Josh Lane, of her plans to attend the fair on Saturday night that was the last conversation anyone had with her.

Frankfort man dies on I-64 in...

A Franklin County man was killed on I-64 yesterday when he ran into the back of another vehicle in his pickup truck.

Kentucky State Police investigators have identified the victim as Charles E. Moore, 38, of Frankfort. KSP spokesperson Ron Turley said the fatal crash happened at 3:34 p.m. Thursday when Moore, who was traveling westbound on I-64, drove his Toyota pickup truck into the rear of a large recycling truck driven by William Gram of Indiana at about the 35 mile marker.

The man with the Colonel’s suit

With his connections to the area, many in Shelby County have a story to share about an encounter with the colorful Col. Harland Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken.

But how many of them got to ride in his famed white Cadillac limousine?

How many got to have dinner with him on a regular basis?

How many could call him a family friend?

And how many could say he gave them one of his famous white suits, complete with black bolo tie, for a Halloween party?

And even more, how many could say the Colonel lived in his home?

Finchville scout troop to shut...

In the wake of Boy Scouts of America’s decision to accept openly gay scouts, at least one Shelby County troop will be shut down.

Bill Pacey, who has been a leader with scouting for 17 years and since 2000 has been the scoutmaster off Troop 137 in Finchville, said he will shut down the troop as of Dec. 31, the day before the BSA’s decision goes into affect.

UPDATED: I-64 will be closed at...

A new overpass is open and new ramps off Interstate 64 onto KY 55 in Shelbyville are open.

Now it's time for the big disruption, with lane closures and detours for the next two nights when the old overpass will be demolished.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials have said that the eastbound lanes of I-64 will be closed tonight, beginning at 7, and the westbound lanes will be closed Tuesday at the same time. Both will reopen at 5 the following morning -- if weather and other elements cooperate.

Supreme Court to hear Shelby...

A Shelbyville attorney who sued a bank for not noticing that his secretary was embezzling millions of dollars from him will see his case reviewed in the state Supreme Court.

Oral arguments will be heard at 10 a.m. Friday at the Kentucky Supreme Court in Frankfort in the case of Mark Dean vs. Commonwealth Bank & Trust Co., a suit Dean filed in January 2009, accusing the bank of a violation of a Kentucky Uniform Commercial Code, as well as aiding and abetting fraud and illegal activity and breach of duty of ordinary care.

Shelby County Fair: Best of old...

You might think that this year the Shelby County Fair couldn’t possibly be as exciting as last year, when there were lots of special touches to mark the event’s 150th celebration, but you would be wrong, fair officials say.

“We had some new things for the fair last year with our one hundred and fiftieth anniversary, and we’ll have some of those again this year,” said Ray Tucker, president of the A&M Association, the entity that puts on the fair.

Lloyd Brown still remembers when his son, Brandon, was just a teetering toddler tagging along with him to the golf course, where he often parked himself on the putting green. 

“He was three or four years old, and he’d sit there and just putt and putt and putt,” Lloyd Brown recalled.

As the younger Brown got older, the stakes, albeit imaginary, began to grow.

Traffic issue on KY 55 resurfaces

Congested traffic near a construction zone that surfaced last fall again is drawing the attention of county and state officials.

Shelby County District 7 Magistrate Mike Whitehouse, who brought up last fall what he said was a dangerous traffic situation at the entrance of Martinrea Heavy Stamping, where he works, reiterated his concerns to a representative of the Transportation Cabinet at Tuesday night’s meeting of the Shelby County Fiscal Court.

Youth killed in ATV accident

Police have ruled an all-terrain vehicle crash in which an 11-year-old Henry County boy died Thursday to be an accident.

Dylan Chase Thurman of Eminence, whose mother and other family members live in Shelby County, was killed after the four-wheeler he was driving wrecked on his family’s farm, Kentucky State Police Detective Tim Moore said.

“He was operating it by himself, and he was ejected,” Moore said.
