Josh Marr uses a magnifying glass to get up close and personal with some soil. The experiment in Rachel Metzger’s fourth-grade class at Wright Elementary prompted the class to study three different types of soil and reach a conclusion about the soils’ connections to plants that would or would not grow. Working with him were Tarryn Stone and Chloe Durham. Observations included pebbles, mulch, little rocks, minerals, crumbly, soft texture, mushy after adding water.

Stefanie Zoeller of Shelbyville was among several outstanding students recognized by McKendree University during an honor society induction ceremony for students at the Louisville and Radcliff campuses.

Zoeller, a senior who is studying nursing, was inducted into the McKendree University Nursing Honor Society.

Delaney Bush of Shelbyville was named to Oglethorpe University's dean's list for the fall 2012 semester. Bush, an undecided major, was one of approximately 260 students to earn this distinction, which requires students to achieve at least a 3.5 grade-point average while maintaining a full-time class schedule during the semester.

Devin Ashton and Zach Lingle said they enjoyed being teammates on the Shelby County football team so much that they’re going to do it again for the next four years.

The seniors both signed Thursday in the school’s library to play football for Campbellsville University.

“My best friend [Ashton] was going there, and it’s really close to where I live, plus it’s a big teaching school,” Lingle said of the key factors in his decision.
