Kentucky rain may have been a big hit with Elvis, but for the bee population, it has been causing problems this year, mainly with the head honcho of the hive – the queen bee, experts say.
“There’s been a lot of swarming, but it seems the new queens haven’t been getting properly mated, and that is usually due to weather,” said Clay Guthrie, manager of Dadant & Sons, Inc., a national beekeeping supply chain with 11 stores nationwide, including one in Frankfort.
