Senior Dan Sanders tossed a 1-hit shutout to lead the Collins baseball team to a 10-0, 5-inning victory over visiting Henry County on Tuesday night, the Titans’ Senior Night.

Sanders gave up a single to Landon New to start the game, and that was it. He finished with eight strikeouts to improve to 9-0 on the season.

Sanders had plenty of offensive support as the Titans (27-6) scored one run in the first inning, two each in the second and third and then plated five in the fourth to end the game early.

Jasper honors Bailey’s Auto as its top shop in Kentucky

Roy Bailey, owner of Bailey’s Service Center is Shelbyville, has been honored by Jasper Engines & Transmission as the company’s No. 1 automotive repair shop in Kentucky.

Casey Hanlon of Jasper was in Shelbyville recently to present the award to Bailey, whose garage had installed more of Jasper’s engines and transmissions than any other independent shop in Kentucky for four consecutive years.

It’s rare for opponents or emotions to get the better of Doug Martin and Jeron Russell.

That’s one of the major reasons why Martin, a junior for Shelby County junior, and Russell, a freshman, will play doubles in the KHSAA Tennis Tournament, which begins Thursday at the University of Kentucky’s Boone/Downing Tennis Complex.

Martin and Russell are about as even-keeled as they come on the tennis court.

Two Shelby County residents were named to the dean's list at the Savannah College of Art and Design for fall quarter 2012. Full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the dean's list were Zachary Lyons of Waddy and Chelsea Strobl of Shelbyville.
