Site preparation work is under way this week in Simpsonville on the site of the Outlet Shoppes at Louisville.

The out mall, being built at the intersection of Buck Creek and Veechdale roads, just south of Interstate 64, is in the preliminary stages of site development, and Kentucky Fish and Wildlife was on hand Thursday to clear the fish from the 6.5-acre pond on the property before it is drained. The fish are going to be adopted in the FINs program.

Musicians performing at a concert this Saturday at Shelby County High School will be playing more than their instruments but with their heartstrings.

That’s because the Ernie Threlkeld/Susie Saunders/Mel Owen Memorial Jam is a tribute to those beloved music teachers, all deceased now, the last of whom (Threlkeld) passed away in October.

That’s when about a dozen or more of their students picked up their instruments again and began to practice for this event, said Kathy Edwards Eskridge, a nurse at Our Lady of Peace in Louisville.

This weekend marks the 21st year that Bagdad Baptist Church plays host to Bagdad Days, a rite of spring that calls many former Bagdad residents home to play and reconnect with their roots.

“We have people come back from out of town and out of state for Bagdad Days,” said Kyle Wiley, pastor of Bagdad Baptist. “Everyone knows that their friends will be back, so they come home, too. even young adults know this is a time to return to their roots. It’s a wonderful weekend.”
